Got a rare call for a weasel in a dirt crawl space. Hoping I can positive set an entrance, but may have to use baited cage or rat snap.
I just shot a crop damage deer tonight and saved the liver. Will this be an effective bait? If so, what is the max days I'll get out of it in this heat wave?

I have used tubes to make a escape route after sealing the foundation

I catch incidentals in my weasel boxes as I use them to catch chipmunks and ground squirrels. The weasels check them out as they smell like prey.

I would skip bait in the summer and use feathers and weasel lure in a weasel box. Rotting meat bait is not a plus to me.

This ^. I don't trap them they are part of my team for rodent control including bull snakes.

It's a shame to kill them in the summer when their fur is worthless. I'd try to figure something else out.
I'm with Snowy with the low price for their fur and how great they are on rodents, I let them be. They are such a cool little critter.

It got in, it can get out, probably has a mouse infestation... I'd leave it, but it's your call...

Thanks for the replies. Customer is paying, she doesn't want it there. It gets in through a ripped screen in crawl space door. I mounted a colony trap over entry. Reluctantly added some baited cages. I don't have any weasel lure, and didn't think of feathers, etc. I was on the road at 6am and didn't see all of the replies.

Yep, they worth way more alive than dead to me.

Ideally, it will be caught alive and relocated.

Most have a litter with them this time of year as do most furbearers. It is probably a den site or favorite hunting area for mice or chipmunks. I would just do a seal and put a one way door eviction insertion.

I make mine out of 1/2" X 1/2" x 16 ga.welded wire bent and hog ringed together. A 2" X 2" square about 8" > 10" long. At the end excluder end, hog ring a smaller 1/4" mesh wire door to open and close easily at an angle.

Make it at a good tapered angle with an inch or so extension of the wire door so that it will lie on the excluder wire bottom. This will prevent any reentry. I do this for mice and chipmunks that have chewed a small hole in these screens or weep hole areas.
