Picked up this 1964 ½ Mustang for my wife’s 60th Birthday, she was born in 1964, the month Ford launched the Mustang. Production started on April 17th and this car was manufactured on April 27th, being an earlier model it has all the 1964.5 attributes that are sought after. A total of 121, 538 were produced, 92,705 coupes and 28,833 convertibles. I was looking for a 289cu but this one has a 260 engine- I was told the 260 was only put in the new Mustangs for the first two months of production and then they switched to the 289. The majority of the 260cu engines went into coupes and only a limited number of convertibles, potentially only 35 and were designated for dealerships. Because the Marti Report didn’t originate until 1967- is there anyway to identify productions volumes by engine size for 1964.5? I have a lot of provenance on the vehicle and looking to add to it with additional sources.

Can't help you with your provenance but I was an early Mustang owner.

I ordered a convertible shortly after they came out. Don't remember the dates but I ordered it with the 260 engine. Took about 2 months to get it and it came with the 289 engine. I was told that the 260 was discontinued before my order was built. IIRC, the early 289s, both 2 and 4 barrel version where rated at higher horsepower than those produced a few months later. Something about a design change to the manifold.

Mine was one that was referred to as a 64 1/2 but IIRC, it was titled as a 65 even though I got it several months before the 65 model year for other cars started.

Caspian blue, black ragtop, 289, 2 barrel, 3 speed manual. My first new car and one I should have definitely kept.

I'm no help but I do like the car. Congratulations. For some odd reason I can picture Rat Fink driving something like this.

That's a very cool and beautiful car with some interesting history. Wow, your wife must be happy with that. I like it!
I have a 2013 black GT premium convertible that I occasionally have fun with. Bought it brand new late in 2012 and only have just less than 8 thousand miles on it.

I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!

Perfect Girl car.

Is it the pic ...or does it need a passenger side hood hinge ?

Nice Mustang. I cant help you with your specific question. I restored a 73 Mach1, brother had a 70 fasback, dad had a 68 convertible and my other brother was the blacksheep with a 70 Cougar laugh as Lawdog said, the old Pony cars always get a double take from me. Id never own a Ford today, UNLESS it was the muscle era....

My wife is the youngest of 5 children. Her father bought a 64.5 new as a family car. She was the only one of the children that did not get to drive it.(her sister's boyfriend totaled it). A few years ago I found one and made a deal to buy it for her as a gift. When I went to pick it up the guy decided it was worth more money than he was asking. I told him to keep it. The next year I bought her a 2005 convertible with the v6. I know it's not the same but she loves it. Some day I will find her the real thing.

I have a '69 Convertible. It's been off the road for a while now. I restored it back in my 20's but it needs to be redone.

Nope, but this gal is into them.
Had this Mustang in our family since 1979, was my high school / college car.
Son has it now down in Texas, Wyoming is not Mustang friendly for weather most of the year.
He bought a new one in 2019 to go with his '69.
