I have never owned a diesel before.
Please offer your thoughtful tips, advice, & knowledge for this babe in the woods.

There were some turbo problems on the 11-14 models they went to a different turbo in 2015. That doesn't mean you will have problems with it, that's known as a good engine. You might check the history because it's possible it has had the turbo replaced.

Problem is they only come in a dodge/ram which is a disqualifying issue for many of us. Great motor, horrible truck.

Love this!

I have owned 3 ford diesel trucks. 7.3, 6.7 and the 6cyl in my wife’s truck. All have been great trucks. Change the oil, oil filter, air filter, and fuel filters regularly and you should have no problems. Eric

If you don't need the diesel consider a gas truck. Diesels are getting incredibly expensive to repair, few good diesel technicians locally here, make sure you have one before you commit to a diesel. $5,000+ repairs are not uncommon on a diesel. If you are going to use it all the time and work it hard it probably makes sense. If it's for a couple trips a year I would strongly consider gas.

I have 4 diesel trucks, that is the experience I speak from.

Govt mandated pollution controls have all newer U.S. diesels unreliable and expensive to repair. If it takes DEF or has a DPF filter run far and run fast.

This is very sound advice. More and more people even in the ag world are moving away from diesels. The newer gas engines make plenty of power

How big is your camper? Weight? How far you towing? I would look at gas trucks like everyone else said. You couldnt give me a new diesel. Or find a low mileage older one.
99 f350 7.3 500,000 miles is what I tow with.

Have had a number of diesels, both as work trucks and personal vehicles.
Currently still driving 6.0 I bought in 2005.
Would go gas unless towing heavy every day.
Ford gas 7.3 would be my choice.

Funny thing, had more problems with 2011 6.7 than I ever did with my 6.0.

6.7L is the Ford diesel motor they came out with to shut everyone up b/c the two before that had issues. They drove the 6.7L for one million road miles at the proving grounds before launching production. The were making sure it was right b/c they couldn't afford another problem. They had to save face. Saying that though there are three versions of the 6.7. 2011-2014, 2015-2019, & 2020-2021. Mine is a 2015. The only problem I have had with mine was the fuel / def heater. I had to have it replaced but then it ended up being a recall and they reimbursed me for it. Some people are ate up with DEF being dumb and wanting to delete it off the truck. I can see how it would bug someone that grew up not doing that or something but its really not that big of a deal and I don't buy into the whole get a chip and delete it thing, I'd rather get 300,000 miles and not have a warped head like I've seen with guys running them too hot.

The 6.7L is notorious for pulling things just fine like they aren't back there. I have had no trouble with mine and have had it for four or five years. Its got 130,000 miles on it or so. I really like it.

Point being, check out what was changed from 2014 to 2015... thats what the weak spot was with them which actually answers your question.

I looked it up b/c I was curious looks like from 14 to 15 we got about another 40 horse and the addition of the jake break which is actually pretty handy pulling a camper.
The 14's were setup to shine at low end pulling and the horse power move to 15 made it more sporty on the higher end it looks like.
