So, talking to my BIL and I’ve never left pressure in my air compressor after I use it. He said it doesn’t matter. What are the opinions from you folks.

you drain it to get the accumulated water out of the tank

I admit I have left air in the tank.

but then later drain with the bottom valve and have a bunch of water

leaving water sit in your tank , is bad for the air and bad for the tank

rusted out tanks go BOOOOOOM

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I've always left pressure in the talk. What's the risk of doing that?

Mine has pressure 24/7. 5hp, 60 gallon tank. My first one lasted around 20 years until the compressor got too much play in the bearings and kept throwing the belt. My current one is about 10 years old now with no issues.

Mine bleeds off, never thought about it. We bled the air on the trucks, a lot of water came out of the valve.

I'd hate to fill up the 60 gallon tanks from zero every time we used it

I don’t know if it’s a problem. Never heard anything either way.

Draining water off every now and again is different than bleeding all the air pressure off every time u use it

Both of mine stay pressured up, bleed water off periodically.

I don't use mine that much but drain air after every time I use it. and leave valve open so it can dry inside. Mine about 45-year-old.

Contractor for nearly 40 years, compressors of various types, brands, and sizes. drain occasionally, unless using one for any sort of spraying, due to water. Get water buildup in the tank, and is sometimes rusty water, but never had a tank failure.
And I seriously doubt a tank will go BOOM. In the unlikely event a tank rusted to the point it couldn't hold air pressure, it would simply leak. The tank wouldn't suddenly explode.

Just doing what I want now.

We always drain the compressor in our dental unit at work after using it. That’s the manufacturers instructions

it very much does happen , thin tanks , rusted tanks

it sometimes kills someone but most of the time just flies across the shop when the tank ruptures.
here is an example

I’ve seen the hole in the wall from one that exploded.

One of the most dangerous tools in your shop. I made a post on this about a year or so ago. Spend $50 at lowes and get yourself an auto bleeder for the bottom of the tank. Here's a video of a little one that exploded.

This guy almost died. Air compressors are nothing to take for granted.

I have the drain valve on my tank open slightly. Allows moisture to drip out.

It has #120 in it 24/7 about 9 months out of the year. I seldom run it in the bitter cold as it’s in unheated space.

I bought it new in 1993.
