One of my co workers is baby sitting this little gal all week! So she’s hanging out in the clinic. Only about a week old. The mommy sheep had triplets and isn’t taking care of this one but I seem to recall hearing that sheep will sometimes just walk away from their babies and not care for them. I have no experience with farm animals. She’s a delight.

I'll bet that lamb would make a nice pair of slippers.

I believe this where the phrase "hind teat" came from. The 3rd lamb usually gets it.

sheep are born looking for a place to die

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

Some human parents do the same thing!

How sad! No wonder lamb is expensive!

I believe Vinke has quite a bit of experience with sheep so he may be able to help. It is a cute little bugger.

I have nothing clever to put here.

yes alot are bad mothers for sure. ive seen first year ewes squirt out a lamb while running full speed the length of the barn, and once you got her penned up and alone, would refuse the lamb. just another bottle baby. as mentioned above, this ones problem is most likely being the third in line. probably a permanent bottle baby, but thats not a big deal if not dealing with dozens of them at a time.

You have to remember their bag is only split in half not quarters like cows so providing enough milk for triplets is difficult, a bad ewe usually only has one lamb then they become dog food.

not necessarily worse than other animals

a friend had a Rottweiler that rolled over and killed most of her first litter

look at some human mothers , horrible

generally nature works on a continue the line and some times if food is scarce that means kill the pups so that the pack continues and bread again next year

if that Ewe is consistent in feeding 2 lambs out every year she might even stay in the flock
2 good market weight lambs are worth more than 3 sub weight lambs.

you just don't continue bad mothers , if they prove bad at it you send them to market.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
