This made me chuckle

I personally HATE self checkouts
Mostly because they give you 1 sq/ft to put a buggy load of groceries and the minute you move something out of that little space to make room it locks up and you have to stand and wait for the ONE employee to come straighten it out that takes care of all 20 of them

Back in bocos and Danny's day as you put it minimum wage was maybe a couple bucks an hour. Back in my day as you put it it was barely 3 dollars an hour.

I worked at a truckstop for 2.50 hour. Pretty good wages for a 16 y/o. Self service had not been invented. Truck would pull up to the fuel island and we fueled it, washed the windows and mirrors. Checked the oil and bumped all the tires. Often the driver would go inside for a shower or a meal. We parked the truck for him filling out a form on how much fuel and where it was parked then took it and the keys to the fuel desk. Often the driver would leave a tip at the fuel desk. We fixed flats, did oil changes and grease. Had a mechanic for big stuff I got to assist at times.

Now your treated like a thief and do all service yourself.

My first actual paycheck job in the early '60's. I was making $.50/hr, as an Usher at a drive in movie. Cut grass for $.25 to $.50 per yard. My favorite was evry Mon am I'd take a couple of shopping bags with the little paper rope handles, jump on my bike and head for the local city park to scrounge soda bottles at a penny ea deposit. I can't tell you how much the Manager at the Kroger hated my guts. LOL He's have dig hard to find enough of those little wood case's to hold them all. I'd made at least 2 trips a day, sometimes 4. Holiday weekends I'd go Sat/Sun and Mon am. Made good money for a 10 yr old. in the late '50's.
I was devastated when bottle deposit went up from a penny to tupence, I KNEW nobody would be stupid enough to throw down a 2 cent bottle, but NO, they were! My income doubled overnight, what a deal!
