Basement flooded this weekend so the carpet got yanked and insurance is cutting a check for a few grand. Leaning toward doing a garage/basement epoxy with the confetti looking flakes. Dont want to pay a pro but had a buddy do it who said it didnt turn out well.
Any brand/product to use or stay away from?

All paint is the same..... I think most come out of 2 factorys....
Floor prep is important.
Super simple to install...
Small roller for edge,,,,big for Body
Get a pain of spike shoes to spread the flakes

I just recently did a portion of my basement for a meat room. I didn't do the flake because I wanted to see blood, dirt, hair on the floor. It's a project.
Two important things to do:
1) grind the floor to roughen it up so the epoxy sticks. (Dustiest job I've ever done. RESPIRATOR, Fan in window sucking out, and close everything you can).
2) you have to babysit the epoxy for about 3 hours and roll it every 15 minutes or so, until you can't roll it. The epoxy bubbles up and has to be rolled over and over, north/south, then east/west. If you see any bubbles after that, even tiny ones, mist it with denatured alcohol.
Repeat step 2 the next day, and the following day if you have enough epoxy.

It came out pretty good and easy to clean.

I did it with rustoleum once in a garage. Dont remember doing much for prep other than mopping with water and purple power. Hated the confetti. Drop a small part or washer and you will never find it. But might be ok in a basement

Don’t use epoxy it is impossible to clean dirt sticks to it like a magnet and the fumes are very toxic. And for sure don’t put the flakes down they make cleaning worse and after repainting down the road the flakes make dimples that collect more dirt. Im repainting whole shop with latex Dutch boy porch and floor gloss. When it drys wax it also Home Depot sell dry lock garage floor paint that resists water great I will never use epoxy paint again

every garage floor in "nicer" home in AZ cares to differ......
We even do driveways...

I do like the grind and stain,,,,lots more work, but homedepo sells an attachment that hook up to your grinder to collect dust in a vacum

Put carpet back down. I wouldn't use that stuff in a living space. Sure a polished floor would be the bees knees, but that's a lot of money and health hazard. Especially for a basement. If carpet was good enough before, it should be good enough now.

I would address the flooding problem before I worried about what to put back on the concrete

The only way I can address the flooding problem is buying larger pumps, which ive done. We had roughly 18-20 inches of rain in 24 hours. A 3/4, 1/2 and a battery back up sump didnt keep up running at once. Flooded once when it wouldnt keep up and 2 days later when one pump burnt up. Water is still pouring into the pit, but not as hard. More tstorms tonight. There is zero chance I will ever put carpet in a basement again.
On the plus side, i can change a pump with nascar pit crew speed at this point.
