I'd ice it down and elevate it first. I'm sure there are ppl who can get u the exact information you have asked for, but I have always regretted it if I did not address the swelling first.

I hope it wasn't shod was it?

Ice, lots of ice, and a couple aspirins, willow bark is essentially aspirin, can't help on a recipe, but it's real easy to just open the bottle...feel better

Yes ,a shod pack horse mare in heat .My saddle horse mare was horsing too and we got balled up crossing a river and she got too close and nailed me below the knee .Ironic that is the very best pack horse I have ever experienced ,my pard borrowed her from his neighbor. Thanks LL and gcs.

something I do remember from college - all willows are members of the salix genus where salicylic acid was derived from for making of aspirin. gcs is indeed correct in that chewing or sucking on willows will release salicylic acid - native americans were one of the first to use this knowledge and often were observed with a willow twig in their mouth. I am not sure what part of the willow would have highest concentrations of salicylic acid. As a poultice not sure if the acid can penetrate the skin - only heard of oral remedies

Salicin is derived from the bark and leaves of the Willow Tree. No idea how much you need or have to chew or eat for relief.

Start with 12 pack of coors lite and a can of Copenhagen, drink half the 12 pack while chewing 1/4 of a can Copenhagen . Check condition and story development of incident. Add more of both ingredients until you feel better and story sounds like you were only person who could live through such extreme injury

Two old dudes ,we said let's hit the Scapegoat wilderness before the haying begins and our bodies get worse ! We made a approximately 30 mile loop .We left on Monday morning and returned on Wed late .I rode a green broke Res mare I got in Sept .She is pretty well sacked out after this trip .No Grizzly bear encounters thankfully.Only heard one wolf howl ,and saw only ONE grouse in all that country .surprised at the number of deer we saw and that they were all Whitetails .Pete hooked us plenty of fish for supper the last night . That right leg of mine does NOT go over the cantle like it use to ! It froze cold on Monday nite .Glad to be home .Only day rides from now on . Will post a picture of some axe work to get on down the trail in a new thread .

Hope you are doing better. It could have been worse if you got kicked someplace else.

Good Luck!

Incidents like this makes a guy wonder how the old time mountain men did it? I mean no coors light and no chew to deal with the injury....dang tough as nails...lol
g smith, I hope all is healing correctly and the pain has subsided.
