I just got a crossbow and have never had one before, first time i shot it, it didn’t act right and it looks like i snapped some of my strings. i know not to dry fire it, but im pretty sure my problem was i put the odd color fletching up instead of down and it caught the spring that holds it in place. I shot it 2 more times after and It worked fine. so i’m wondering if I should re-string it for safety or power or any other negative effect. If it’s okay that works better for me. [Linked Image]

It don't look horrible. I would think the string maybe needs a couple of more twists.

They need wax on the string and the rails if your not sure restring it before it blows up at a bad time not that’s there’s a good time. LOL My buddy gave me his old one that has a string that frayed in a couple places I’m replacing it before my elk hunt not taking any chances. Looks like $140 to get one restrung with a custom made string and cable combo.

I’m taking mine to MO to be restrung at a place that’s more familiar with crossbows they are not legal here without a permit.

Looks like a few twists on the string and a good waxing on the string and rails would take care of it.

But if you have doubts about it, get it re-strung to be safe.

I would definitely have a shop look at it and possibly restring it if necessary. You don't want to risk the thing blowing apart on you. Had that happen once , luckily everything went through other way but the xbow is history as it was a Horton and replacements parts are non-existent.

Gone Trappin you could use a new string.
Is it a 10 Point crossbow?

Law Dog you really need a new set of cables and find the reason for the fraying in the first place
Something isn't working properly

Shops recommend replacing every 2 years whether you use it or not.

Take it to the shop and get it restrung it's not worth taking a chance on !! Most times when a string breaks so do the limbs! And keep your thumb and fingers below the string.

Modern crossbows should have string/cables relaced EVERY YEAR. There is so much tension on those that going more than 1 year (even with light use) is a bomb waiting to blow up.

I wouldn't shoot that crossbow without a new set. Be careful.

Restring it! It's a safety issue. You can get hurt bad if it blows up.
