When I started thinking about my in ability to not work so much. I'm at 88hrs for the week and expect to get 97
when asked for tomorrow Night shift( they won't let us work more than 96 meeting don't count words that so I can get 97.5)1 Now that's not all but when I gat home Monday at 530 am.first time in 7 days the last time was for 15 hrs. I will be getting ready to go out and work my very neglected bees. That should take the better part of the day, than maybe get some mowing or bush hoping work done. Needless to say the 3 days I will be off will be daylight tell after dark getting caught up.

I always thought working was a gift and other were just a bit or very lazy, but I'm beginning to think it may be closer to an addiction with me. All ready planing how many and what days off I will work the next 2 months. Along with how much $ should be in savings/ investments , and where the extra will go when the rent House is paid off. The more successful I get and more goals I hit the more focused I seem to get.

I was joking with my wife at first but it did get me thinking. I guess I will see how I do with slowing it down the end of September and how I do with all the scheduled time off in October and November.

The plan had been be debt free, have nice savings, invest heavily building wealth, get big ticket projects done that will make life easier/ increas profits & organization. Seemed like I was spinning my wheels for a long time but now things are coming together at an accelerated pace. It's exciting but I wonder if I will know when to slow down or if I will be able to.

Am I alone with this issue?

Time off in those months will not be wasted, you and your kids will hunt and trap. Just because you’re not “working” doesn’t mean that you’re lazy. You’re going to work yourself into an early grave and miss out on life if you keep this pace up buddy!! Please slow down a bit!

I'm in the same boat more less. The problem is when I take a day off I get even more overwhelmed and fusterated, fishing isn't fun on Sunday when you know you'll spend 3 days making up for it and be stressed out.

All you post about is how many hours you work..

Seems to be a little bit on the spectrum.

Post about all your plans...blah blah blah

Like Mike Tyson said ..everyone has a plan..until they get punched in the mouth...

Or until that check engine light comes on .

I have guys I know ...that brag about what they have accomplished...but their circle of friends are non existent.

But hey....you do you...and hope you reach your goals

Unless you want to have a very poor quality of life in your older years you had better think about what you are doing now.
It is NOT worth it.Not even to mention missing out on being in your kids life in a meaningful way when they need you.
Greed for extra money will hurt you in the long run.Chasing after the almighty dollar is not that important in the big picture.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

I used to be addicted to work, but get bored after i have mastered a occupation.
Build and sold three companys, each one different.
Now all i want to do is be Forest Gump…..and mow the school yard for free
I am currently part time online bidding large commercial flat roof projects, beaver and bats.

I’ve seen too many people put an emphasis on tomorrow versus the now. Working 90 hours a week ain’t healthy man. If you NEED to do that to provide for your family, it is what it is. If not, you are going to blink your eyes and your kids will be adults.

I understand the setting yourself up for the future part, but when is enough? How do you know when you’ve made it and can you stop once you’ve achieved it.

I’ve seen too many of my friends chase the dollar and the wife and kids had no idea how to act when they were home. Became so uncomfortable, they would work more.

Best of luck to you. Hope you find a happy medium.

I'm working Overtime multiple days a week. We can also count on at least 1 Mandatory 8hr OT on top of that as well. We are so short staffed it is literally killing us. A person could write his own paycheck right now if he wanted to work. Most of us are burnt out because we have been doing it so long. Have been seeing a lot of guys go off the deep end lately too (drinking, domestics, divorces, etc). It's astonishing to see how many folks here work 1000 and several even consistently work 2000 plus hours of OT in a year. Right now, again, I have my choice to volunteer for OT tomorrow or be "volun-told" when I get to work tomorrow morning, I'll be staying for 16hrs. I have every hour of my short weekend planned out, because I'm so exhausted if I stop, I won't get much done.

You're correct all my post are like that. Probably because that's what I do, not much time for anything else after all. And your also correct nothing goes as planed. Yet I always worked like this . But never really got ahead. Having sold goals, then figuring out if it's possible and how to get there ie a plan sure has made a huge difference.

It’s very tough, the anxiety gets to be the worst as things don’t happen at the same speed and the probelms are different than your used to so it’s harder to fix and things get frustrating.

I worked 2 jobs most of my life, and put most of the money from the one job into a 401 type investment, I'm not rich but we can afford what we need as long as we don't go wild. However, both jobs were local, so while I missed some family time, I was usually around for most of it, and home every night....

I applaud your goals, but you do seem to miss a lot, maybe your goals have become an addiction...and it seems your thinking like that.
Only thing I can offer is you don't know the future, illness, or serious injury has a way to upset best laid plans... can you bring yourself to slow down just a little to start?

Lots of missed opportunities in life.
Spending to much time away working for the Castle we build, is not the richness in life that's lost.
Been there and still realizing it at 70+ yrs old.

Honest to me it's like you are constantly reminding us how much you work and how finically sound you are. I know others on here that probably work as many hours and are as finically sound or better but have never posted once about it. I'd look into why it's so important that u need to let everyone know.

I work a lot, when I’m not on call the guys who are know I’m usually available for help or to cover. Lots to pay off before I can retire at 57ish? But I also spend it. Pay stuff down, but you gotta live too…..to a point. But winter it slows down which is perfect.
Just got back from a heck of a morning. Tree branches tripped fuse at 3AM. Leaking insulator burnt pole down, shorting it out while it was protected by a huge fuse which in turn burnt the conductor down over a highway on what we call a “widow maker” tap. That short picked the next weakest link which was a 12kv 600A disconnect near the station. Then the 66kv line feeding the station saw the action and started operating its protection at a bigger station about 60 miles away. Then the wife calls, “our powers out” another leaking insulator but it broke instead of burning the pole. On the way home almost timed out, one more came in. This time it was a weak customer owned breaker. I’ll try and get a nap in before midnight when I’m back on, but I’m thinking it should be quiet…..just some drunks taking poles out with their vehicles.
The 600A switch sounding like a big welder…lol

16 And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. 17 He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’

18 “Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. 19 And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’

20 “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’

21 “This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”

I won't suggest what you should do. I will tell you what I would do. I would be looking for answers from the one who knows. I would be praying about it. Asking him and looking for answers in the good book. If it was weighing heavy on my mind. I'd be thinking he's already talking to me. At the very least it would be a conversation I'd be having with my family.

I must be lazy cause I have never nor would I ever work 97 hours a week. I’ve worked 7 12’s but for a very short time otherwise I wouldn’t do it. I have worked with guys who love 7 12’s and say it doesn’t get any better than that. I always tell them I’ve worked jobs that are 4 10’s and it does NOT get any better than that!

It's like you're hiding from something. I figured you worked all the time because you hated either your family or your home life. I no longer feel as strongly about that as I used to, but something is different about feeling like you have to work all the time. No matter how much you work, you will never be able to make up for your lost family time. There will come a time when someone regrets you being away from home so much of the time, and I really feel that someone will be you. I think going to see a professional for some help would be a good thing to do. Not only for you, but for your family too. Admitting there is a problem is the first step in correcting it.

I feel you. Friday was our 27th year of marriage. The last time I did not work for more then 3 days in that entire time was our honey moon. Tuesday we are going on an Alaskan cruise for two weeks. The anxiety of not working that long is killing me! But i am forcing my self to shut that feeling off. I have zero debt, own a 100 acre farm, own a successful business, rental home that I use as a storage unit (lol), our net worth is in the several millions, etc.... But what does any of that mean? I turned 50 this year and the "long weekend" vacations I have allowed myself to take have all had a business/work attachment. Other than the occasional trapping convention I have not done much to enjoy my "success".

Ladies and gentlemen money is important but we are living life. We do not know the hour in which our ticker will stop ticking. I feel I may have realized this later than I should have.

To be debt free is important but being of sound mind and body is more important. You guys take care of your selves. We don't need any more problems than we already have. Be safe......jk
