Our head cowboy came to the farm in 1980 when I was 5. He only wore shoes in the winter. I can still see him running his feet down each pant leg before he got in the pickup to get the stickers off his feet. I don’t remember him consistently wearing shoes until the mid 90’s. He would even hop in the cattle tube and push cattle with no shoes. He trained for the Boston and ran every day barefoot. Crazy tuff dude.

When I was a kid, the only time I wore shoes from mid May to mid Sept. was to church. Was raised on a dairy farm and stayed barefoot all summer regardless of the tasks at hand. Feet were tough, dirt roads, cow paths, hauling hay, chasing rabbits in the stubble when combining, all barefoot.

Now, I have to stay on concrete or well groomed grass outside but I still stay barefoot as much as I can during the summer.

I will go barefoot on the grass or concrete. I can't do gravel though

Why not? I've had plantar fasciitis in both feet, not at the same time though. I've had it several times. The first time was debilitating and lasted weeks before I did my homework and fixed it with a boot that kept my plantar fascia stretched and immobile overnight and morning stretching exercises. I was pain-free in days.

I've gotten it two or three times since and I get rid of it quickly. I haven't had it in years though and I go barefoot every chance I get.

Eh...wot?

Not anymore. As a kid we always went barefoot. Swimming or climbing trees was always easier barefoot. As an adult my feet went from tough as nails to tender after years of socks and shoes. I’ll occasionally walk the yard barefoot, but that’s about it. Of course in the house I’m always barefoot.

All the Amish women and kids go barefoot all summer around here. Only time the put on shoes this time of year is to go to a sale or church. Their feet got to be tough as leather.

I mow the grass barefoot, but it has no thorns or burrs in it. Going barefoot in the grass or on sand has a lot of good health benefits, ground's your body. We live in a world with so much electrical frequencies that bombard our bodies that causes it stress. Natural grounding helps to put your body back in check.

I'm not mowing the lawn or running the chainsaw without proper protection. Running out to the mailbox barefoot for sure ... fully believe in grounding the body.

Used to see a lot of people walking around barefoot back in the 60s.
I wear good running shoes in town in summer and boots in the bush.

Not sure what you're all worried about. The mowers we have today are very safe. I'm 3 foot behind the mower, don't put my feet anywhere near the mower, and have a nice lawn with no debris. In my 45 years plus of mowing, I've never had any problems or dangerous situations with mowers on a groomed lawn. I'm not one to say it would never happen, but chances are pretty slim like a lot of things. I'm not trying to advocate others to do it, but I'm comfortable with it.
