If not wanting to work 100hrs a week is lazy, then I'm lazy. And proud of it.

I’m not sure about that. My job is to feed the family. I miss stuff but my family knows why I’m doing it.

I don’t know of employment out there that doesn’t offer some type of paid time off. Days can be taken to not miss family time.
It’s a choice.

This. I regret the time I missed with my wife and child due to my obsession with working all the time. Eric

I’ll be honest…I think it’s just male mentality to provide for our families. We’ve all been there and if I hadn’t seen a man broken beyond anything I’d ever seen over the regret of missing so much I might’ve turned out the same.
Men want to provide a better life for our families and it’s easy to justify, but we miss so much. I’ve never met anyone who lost a loved one that would rather have money than one more day with that person.
I think it’s just a decision we have to make and I’ve preached to my boys. Work like a madman while you’re young and single, but when that wife and later a child comes along, that is your priority. You can still work OT or extra jobs, but never volunteer to work if it’s going to cause you to miss life’s moments.

dang! The truth.

I am done with this thread after the senseless wall of text the OP put up on page three.

I don't get paid time off. If I want a day off it's on me.

Lots of jobs don't offer paid time off.

Sadly never had paid time off on the farm when I worked for others. Many jobs out in the country, especially farms are that way around here

Paid time off is a pretty basic benefit. Your employer doesn't offer it? (if you're self employed that's different, of course)

I don't get any paid time off but am only scheduled to work 14 days out of 28 so can be off usually if i need to be.
Even if im scheduled and i need off i hav 4 weeks vacation. If that wont work i will just call in. . We Also home school and I have my scheduled days I'm working a few years in advance so most every can be scheduled around my job.

At work none and won't work tomorrow either. At home last night I didn't go finish up bees even though I had time to make it to the yard and get done before dark. Wife was 20 min away from having dinner done so I just waited tell today to work that yard.

So went to bed about 1030 sleep in tell 730 this morning. Wife had breakfast fixed ate that and took a shower. Dug a 60 foot roll of potatoes and a 60 roll of carrots woth potato fork. Feed the goats, bushhoged for a while, tilled 24' x 60' of garden, mowed about 5 acres, drove to one of the bee yards weed ate it and worked those hives with the boys, came home and started to work on another project when the wife came up and pointed out our daughter was at class and the boys were out picking blackberries so the house was empty so took the hint and a break, then went back out and mowed some more, tractor started running rough and died one of the boys brought
a truck down and we pulled ot to the barn, shot a groundhog with dad's glock up at the barn, and came home for dinner. Working on my 11 year Olds 4 h small engine project now.( replacing the pump on a pressure washer). Still have an hour of daylight left.. probably need to hop in the Shower just had another tick crawling up the back of my neck. Just a basic day off I'm sure tomorrow will be similar.

How many hrs will I work this week is what your are asking? If so at least 48 possibly 60. Now don't forget when I'm working I'm 127 miles from home and gone tell my next days off so work 16 hrs every day it's offered since I won't be going home after work. May as well take ththe money offered and make being awaynfrom home worth it.

That does help explain to me some of your situation. If you are not going home and are paying for other housing you may as well work. You and your family need to decide when other options may be better for all of you.
The newer technology won't replace atcually being together but is much superior to what was available 40-50 years ago. The longest I was away from my wife and daughter was the 10 months I was in Nam. Very limited calling options, so letters were the main communication. It takes a while to get re-acclimated and back into being home. At least it was for me. Funny that much of what gets missed when the family is young and growing becomes topics of discussion as time passes and we are older. Good to have those conversations even if they come later.
Bryce
