That will stop grass. I got some that stopped weeds but let grass through. How heavy and thick does it need to be to prevent grass coming through? Thank you.

Plain fine cattle salt will take care of grass and weeds. I use under my electric bee yard fence and on my asparagus beds , works like a charm

Roofing shingles, or roll roofing, nothing gets through that.

I would never use weed barrier in a garden/plant bed.

We used road mat around our foundation with the foundation plantings. Nothing has come up thru it but grass and weeds sprout in the covering bark mulch and have to be addressed. I spray Clethodium to kill the grass and Certainty for the broadleafs weeds. Both are tolerated by the juniper plantings. We used river rock at a previous house and it worked better than bark mulch at preventing weeds and grass.

This is in our garden. I'm using cardboard now after fighting the grass. Why not weed barrier Marty? Seems like the answer to me but the sun deteriorates it.

I have had good luck with the landscaping material or the matrial used at construction sites. Comes in 3 foot rolls say 50 foot or more. It is cheap, light and does allow rain to pass through but I don't have grass coming through. Just straight 4 mil black plastic will work and is low cost. light and reusable if you choose to.

We use a black weaved plastic fabric in the garden. We burned holes at different spacing for different plants and at the end of the season we roll it up and label it. On the 4th year now and it is only Slightly faded. I only expected it to last 3 years but it looks like we will double that. Now and then some crab grass makes it through but not much. Really cut down on the weeding.

Do you know the thickness of it? I've seen up to 5 mil. I'm sick of weeds and grass!

This tread has me thinking about the shrub planting along some of the highways in WI. Long strips of a black fabric that probably installed by the county. It looks like it lasts a long time and nothing is growing through it. Anyone know what that material is? Not sure if it is the same material as landscape fabric. Looks like plastic and not fabric. Might be a better long term solution Gary is looking for

Landscaper here. Use 6 mil black plastic. Comes on rolls of different widths. Don't recommend any of the fabrics for weed control. Grasses can grow up thru it and weeds can root down thru it (makes them impossible to remove).
