I just bought a 2018 tundra 5.7 4WD.
It replaced my 2008 tundra 5.7 4WD.
The 08 was the best truck I ever owned, I’d still have it, but a tree fell on it and totaled it. I have no doubt the 18 will be just as good.
Eh...wot?

I have been told to stay away from anything turbo. They are good up to about 100K then you'll have to replace them and have been assured they are not cheap, especially the twin turbos!

I have a 2010 with the 4.6 liter 310HP. It now has 315,000+ miles on it. I had to have the heater box replaced and a torque converter. Other than that, no problems.

I was going to replace my 2008 Tundra with a new one after it got totaled. I was building one online and couldn't find the V8 5.7L option. I learned Toyota no longer makes a V8 since 2021. The new twin-turbos are impressive on paper, more power and torque than the 5.7's. But there is no way you can cram that much power into that small of an engine and still have it be durable. I settled for a 2018 Tundra with a 5.7. One nice thing about Tundras is how well they hold their value. The insurance payout on my sixteen-year-old Tundra was only $6,800.00 less than I paid for it new.

Bought a new 5.7 4WD Tundra in 2007. 157,000 miles at this time. Bumpers are rusting out, will be looking for replacements. Has the expanded cab with the 6 1/2 foot bed. Would buy it again in a heartbeat. Has the dual temperature controls. Dealer called it the marriage saver feature. Brakes, starter replaced, Most of the exhaust system has been replaced. Other than that, can't think of anything that's gone major wrong. 16-19 mpg is tolerable. Counterbalanced by the Prius we use most of the time. 45-53 mpg. That's a 2010 with 240,000 miles. It's a good combination. One of the few small vehicles I can comfortably sit in with room above my head yet.
Yea, I'd give that used 5.7 Tundra a thumbs up.

My wife has an '08 Tundra with the 5.7 engine
I've always been a Chevy 3/4 & 1 ton guy, but I do have to say that the Tundra is probably the best half ton truck on the market. The new twin turbo V-6 is not inclusive in that statement.
If Toyota made a heavy duty truck I would own one. But I'm not ruling out an older Tundra after I retire. I bought an '07 with the 5.7L and I agree with you 100%. It is easily the best half ton ever made and I added all the extras to pull a gooseneck. It won't keep up with a diesel but easily out performs any other gas motor for that roll.

I always thought it was silly. I mean, how do you have two zones in a small cab like that, mine was a double cab. In the 16 years that I owned that truck I always had the left control set to sinc and I don’t think it ever moved off of that. I see the newer ones, at least my 2018 SR5 have gone back to single zone temp control.

Toyota recalled all of the twin turbo models which is said to be around 100,000 engines Yeah, I read about that. When they first came out with the twin turbo V6 the turbos had major problems with the waste gates. They were fixing those under warranty. My understanding is that it is not an easy fix given the design. The latest recall has to do with metal debris in the oil and the number one main bearing wearing out prematurely. I hope they figure it out. I wish they’d put the 5.7L back into the production but I doubt they ever will. I think this is all because whatever federal government agency that regulates these sort of things is forcing auto manufactures to produce vehicles with higher gas mileage.

I like it cold. Her, not so cold. Winter time she likes that warm air . . . I tend to back it down a bit.

I thought the dual control was great. Was ticked off when they went back to single control.
Muskrat described the advantage of dual very well.
I have a 2017 5.7 and get 16 in average driving and have gotten 19 on long trips. The only time I get less than 16 is when towing.
