Alright wife wants to get into archery with me an nephew, problem is she wears glasses and doesn't have the best eyes sight ( without her glasses she can't see me 5' or so away in the dark.....go on make the jokes lol). She's really worried about possibly breaking her glasses and not really sure how to help.

Also wanna order some leather to make some tabs for my recurve. Doesn't seem the ones I bought don't fit me too well so figured I'd make my own. Don't know much about leather though so what would y'all recommend as far as what thickness or whatever to get ?

Any advice ?
Thanks smile

Time to get contact lenses! I can’t stand having glasses on my face and that’s a real concern when you pull a bowstring back to your lip. Is it the same with a recurve?? I have one but I don’t know what the shooting etiquette or protocol is for recurve.

Wolfe, with a compound the string is in front of the glass, short axle to axle
Have her cant the recurve to her comfort zone.
She'll do fine with the glasses on

I don’t understand how glasses have anything to do with shooting a bow. Are you thinking the bow string might hit them?

She's a bit terrified of anything hitting those things since their expensive to replace. Also not 100% on how well she can see with them. She's tired shooting my bow a few times but I can never properly explain how to deal with her glasses . She sees me anchor and idk. Lil hard to explain

Gonna have to try again I guess. Wish there was lil a lil class locally because me and her have a two different learning styles and it can be a tad bit difficult blush I'm more fiddle around till it works for me but she needs like a firm defined base

Stick her a peep sight on the bow and she won’t have a choice but to keep the string in front of her glasses.

I wore glasses and shot all kind of bows for over 30 years. Never did have a string or anything hit them. I did get into a bad habit with plucking the string on my longbow once. Ended up with a swollen and bloody lip but the glasses were intact.

I prefer contacts to glasses but can wear glasses when shooting my recurve. Assuming you're using a longbow or recurve, shooting three under with a lower anchor will likely help. Maybe have her blind bale shoot a bit like that to gain comfort and confidence.

Also, for what it's worth, many leather tabs are supposed to be trimmed to fit the user. I like the Yost predator tab.

I’ve worn glasses since I was 11. A few state championships with both compound and longbow. Only problem I’ve ever had was fogging!

Dont know about glasses

This is what i shoot for a tab after a bunch of experimenting. Its a small tab. I shoot a modified split where my middle and ring are hooking the string and my index is pointing forward. Tab is beaver tail leather over bison. Also use the beaver tail leather for my shelf/rest too. Its about the toughest leather around and does well getting wet. The o ring is the appropriate size for your finger. I find them at Ace or your local hardware store. Screw is what they call a chicago pin i think

The only issue I've ever had shooting my bow with my glasses is that when I angle my head when I shoot sometimes my frames get in the way of my peep sight but not because they are touching the string but the frames are in sight line..
It is also worse with frames that are not very tall. What I did was go to America's Best eyeglasses and got a cheap pair that reminds me of the old cop mirrored glasses, basically just get a cheap pair of glasses with big lenses for archery.
