$4 dollars in 1960 would be $42 today. According to my information in the NWT the average price during the 60's would have been around about $12 which would be over $100 Canadian in todays prices. P.S. the 60's were not exactly a fur boom. That tells you how bad things are today.

$4 dollars in 1960 would be $42 today. According to my information marten in NWT averaged 10 dollars Canadian in 1960 and averaged about $12 throughout the 60's between $8 and $20 Canadian. $12 in the 60's would be over $100 Canadian in todays prices.
Yah it's crazy! My pap used to get 50 bucks a coon and he would brings 100s of coons in at a time! That's enough everyday to make you get a average yearly salary in just 4 months!

What’s the best synthetic winter hat? Doesn’t hold a candle to a cheap muskrat hat at -30 riding behind the Tundra on a sleigh, never mind the environmental footprint. You’ll pay good money and look cool with the latest big name logo on it, but be borrowing my hat when we stop to do a check to warm up the noggin….lol. What percentage of the population are out snowmobiling in -30 weather?

P.S. the 60's were not exactly a fur boom. That tells you how bad things are today. I stand corrected,it was the 58-59 season and avg price at that time for marten was $4.95 which is 53 today so quite a bit less than currently. Lynx were less then than today as were fox,but other fur like fisher beaver and mink were quite a bit higher then. Coon about same as today. Seems that land fur and water fur went opposite in value in earlier fur market ups and downs unlike today. That was an interesting time in the fur industry-the two Canadian inventions that revolutionized trapping (conibear trap and skidoo) were being taken up by the Northern trappers. Regardless of low fur prices trappers invested in their operations en masse..

What percentage of the population are out snowmobiling in -30 weather? Just saying the synthetic stuff isn’t the same. If it’s cold out, who needs synthetic stuff, they’re not going out anyway and the sledders have helmets. And no, I’m not lost on the fact that I wear Eskimo ice fishing pants when it’s below -20, and decent Cabelas Instinct pants when it’s above -20. But it don’t cut it on your head. A caribou hide suit would be sweet, but a guys gotta be able to move, we’re not as tough as they were 100 years ago.

About $5 difference! Might just do lots of squirrel trapping/hunting and sell them! Get 100 squirrels there 100 dollars! And it's really fun! Season starts early too!

Learn to tan-tanned squirrells sell all day long for 10 dollars and cost pennies to tan. The fur market consists of much more than raw fur sales.

NTO - are you saying you tanned that deer cape????
Before you get too excited about squirrels - you should research the type of squirrels that they sell at international auctions. Just saying, all squirrels are not the same when it comes to value. No that's is someone else's that tanned with trubond
