Figured I’d stop for a lunch break today. While scoping out some beaver action, I heard something in the bush on the other side of the ditch and out came a tuckered out little fawn, more noise behind it and thought it was another one. Out came this big wolf, stopped about 15’ in front of me smiling and took off right back after the deer. I ran back to the truck to get the phone but didn’t see any sign, not a peep. Fawn was breathing hard and the wolf looked like it was taking a leisurely stroll. Didn’t get them on cam but……Crazy!

I took it down. Wasn’t doing anything wrong, but at the end of the video my work truck is in view. If I’m on call, I can take the truck anywhere within my district. But I figured it still didn’t look good when I say “the sh!t you see while trapping”…..lol.
There’s was no action in the video besides wet tracks crossing the road.

Na, like I said. Nothing wrong, but it’s ammo for any Mb Hydro haters. All it’d take is one anti to see the video and I’d be explaining to HR what was going on. They always know where I am, Truck, computer & phone all tracked.

Awesome pics JP!
I like my wolves. As long as we’re able to control the numbers. Me & JP really hammered the females in southeast Mb last winter. Still showing up on cam, which is good for this winter. Trappings way more exciting when there’s wolves around. I get pretty pumped when I see a track on the way in to check sets.
Here’s pics of the beavers I was after when the fawn & wolf came out.

At least it only skeeters to deal with at 7AM, in the afternoon the horse flies are nutz!

That temp can’t be right, was about 26ish yesterday. I reset but I think that might be it.

Yes I like seeing wolf tracks on the trapline too!

I’m eager to see what happened to the area I trapped out the 5 wolves last winter. Running trail cams this Fall will tell me if new wolves moved in or if it’s just the few young ones that survived.

I have another large pack I will try to take out this winter. Not many deer left in that area.

Your trapground will be much more productive with Some wolves around,
key is to keep them at lower numbers but do not wipe them out.
I try to take a couple or three every year, but take note of the years when the packs get large and put more effort into knocking them back harder in those years.

look at the gut on that wolf carrying around the deer leg-he cant eat anymore, but doesnt want to leave that chunk of deer for the other animals to benefit from,he is looking for a place to cache it.
