I want to repair a cement outdoor statue that has become weathered. In pretty good shape except for a critical spot, I need to repair. The nose on the old timer is broke off. I need advice on how to build this back up and the best product I could use for cement repair.

I see they make a epoxy cement and was wondering if any have used epoxy cement to fill in or build up cement using this product?

I have... It's a messy type of product. Sticks to everything it touches and cleanup is with acetone, or buy plastic tools and throw them away after each batch mixed. The best product I found was (flexcrete) bought out of Texas. To make it fluffy or lighten...and fumed silica . It's most likely what your looking for as far as bonding. But I'm not sure where you will purchase something like that in a small batch
Also....When I i do those types of repairs...be sure the part your bonding to is ( raw concrete) by using a grinding wheel of some sort. Then if possible , drill some very small holes and stick wire in them that will extend into the new repair

They make a tub or disk with a 2 part mix that we used for window tracks years ago that worked well and was more puddy like when mixed together. Pushing on the center of the disk made a shallow cup to mix the A and B parts together in.

Thank you both for the reply!! I will look into epoxy cement for concert. The drilling holes and inserting wire or object to make it stronger is what I will do.

It will be similar to concrete only lighter. So a grinding wheel of some sort will be needed. I don't see sand paper working. Also....the epoxy is going to want to self level, the fumed silica is what makes it ( stand). Then... it has a quick set time. Not the most pleasant stuff to work with

Yes, cured epoxy is fully machinable, I have done it many times. Know a motor head that might have a can of Bondo laying around?

Here is the statue I will rescue. The picture makes it look worse then really it is. A little build up for nose and panning dish. So, what is your recommendations for a protective coating when finished with repairs?

Any water base sealer will work, but it looks like you're going to want to color it first

I think it it might work the the same on stable cement but I use two part expoy all the time to repair ceramics. I heat the surfaces to be bonded with a heat gun or torch lightly and this draws the epoxy into the porous ceramic and it makes a clean stronger bond. For smaller repairs I now use UV activated epoxy over the "superglue adhesives and have been impressed.

I've learned enough thru the years to now know that I don't know enough. KNOWLEDGE IS FREEDOM.

Just wanted to share what I learned about this old statuary fountain I'm in the process of rescuing. I found a stamped name and date on the bottom side of cement statuary. It took a while to research and get the info I was after. The date is 1968 is when it was produced and that the mold has been out of production for over half of those years. The mold has been destroyed and reason for not producing this figure is because of lack of sales for this item.

The original company is no longer in business under that name, but it was sold to the company I have been in contact with and gave me as much info as they know. They don't give out the price of the item at the time per company policy.

I'm still in the process of repairs and reconditing the piece. Here are a couple of pictures of this two-piece statuary with the bottom piece not pictured. The detail is pretty unique with a shovel, pick, rope and water canteen. even has a feathah imprint on side of hat. The height is over 4 feet and about 3 feet wide. I plan to retire the old panner to my new cabin I will be starting this month, I hope anyway.

You going to paint it? Looks like a nice fit for a new cabin.

No that is much as I will do for painting it for now. The statue itself will stay as is in grey. If at any time down the road it could be painted but would have a gal do the painting that is a professional do the work.

What a piece of art.
