Second time this year. Both from Brooklyn NY. Hit me good this time, card was blocked as soon as I found out. There's so much crime in America today. Makes one think is there a way to turn us around?? This one made me sick to my stomach.

Bummer ! Hope your bank makes you whole again.
Odd both charges were from the same place. Are you using the card on an auto-pay set up for a recurring expense ?

I only use my debit card at the bank to get CASH.
I dont use credit cards but if you transact electronically all over the place I believe a credit card is safer than using a debit card for that.
But nothing is safe-even sending money orders or cheques thru the mail is risky.

I refuse to have a debit card, too easy for a thief to score on somebody. I keep some extra cash in the gun safe and in the truck, and I have a credit card to use if needed. If that doesn't do it, I do without! Also, I have my bank accounts Red Flag blocked from any and all phone transfers or info.

Debit and credit cards have the same fraud protections.

One is no safer to use than the other.

Do your research....

All anyone needs is the card number to use for at many places.

No exp date, No CCV number...

Banks that issue debit cards have fraud protection...just like credit card companies.....

Right, but with a credit card, the inconvenience is on them. A debit card is out of your account, so the inconvenience is on you. There most likely is an investigation period and you may have to wait till your funds are returned to you.

Last year I went thru that with a Chase card. I bought seems like less than $3000 worth of coats and luggage some where in Florida. They took care of it, never cost me nothing. Then Rural King changed cards and in the first month somebody ran up a couple hundred on it and I had never even used it, made me think someone had inside info. They took care of it.

Like Boco I never use my debits except at the ATM. A couple weeks ago 2 towns 50 mi from here had 2 banks with skimmers on their ATM's so I guess there ain't anything thief proof. I have one cc credit with a $1400 limit on it for foreign purchases. My other cards I can put a limit on and also be notified of foreign activity. But we have plenty of thieves right in the good o USA, but you know the saying, start with charity at home first, lol.

Credit Cards are much safer. You will get your money back. Debit Cards maybe you will. My friend did not. I use a Debit Card to withdraw cash from ONLY my banks terminal.

My bank told me to never use a Debit Card for purchases!!

I never got myself a debt card and don't want one. This is the reason.

What sort of banks are y'all using that don't reimburse you for fraudulent purchases made with your debit cards? I think I've been hacked probably a dozen times in the past 10 years and my banks always made it right.

How long did you have to wait?

It was refunded instantly. They notified me that if it was found to be not fraudulent, it would be deducted from my account at that time after I was notified of the findings.

I don't have an active CC. Did have...years ago. But no longer.

Wife and I have debit cards. Been hit three times in past 8 or 9 years. One was for $300 worth of Chinese food in NYC. Another was at a Ft Lauderdale, FL steakhouse. Other was for electronic equipment purchase by someone in Kentucky. Guy in KY was reportedly charged for the crime.

Twice the bank caught it first. Other time the wife caught it. All 3 times the bank refunded our money within a week.

Credit cards are much easier if you get hacked. Debit cards you can have a little delay in getting your money back in your account..Never heard of an instant refund.. Getting hacked a dozen times in ten years you must be very unlucky.

Yah what people buy when you get hacked is literally FILTH! My mom's card got hacked and I'm not even gonna get in to detail what was bought. It was so bad she didn't even tell me she just said what category it was in, obviously in a PG way.
