I really really REALLY want to trap muskrat. Is there a good chance of them being at my neighboring farmers farm? It's a decent sized pond. And how do I know if there is muskrat. It's just like a pond with no sticks built up in it or anything like that.

You wont be finding any hut building until fall if at all, walk the banks and look for fresh cuttings and runs coming up out of the water.

Go down there and sit on the bank early evening until dark.if there's rats in there they'll be out moving.then if there you can look for bank dens and runs under the water. Like looking on sunny days, you can see the runs on these types of days.

If you have them, a pair of polarized glasses tends to help you see below the surface of the water also

I use a pair of polarized fishing glasses from Walmart. They some times have ones with bifocals on the bottom.

Great for fishing when a need to thread a hook.

Just after dawn you can see the muddied water in front of the dens.

Or walk the bank anytime. If there are dens you'll see them. Or pullouts. Or tacks in the mud. Or droppings on rocks or half submerged logs.

To me, it looks like getting your answer will require a 2 step process. 1 put down the phone or log off the computer and 2 go look.

You're welcome.

Go to the pond and carefully look for rat turds...they will be on rocks and logs sticking out of the water.
