Pretty sure the gov't doesn't pay people to learn how to trap..... I wouldn't be so sure about that. I believe the gov't pays to put quite a few gmen through the Furtaker's college.

I'm sure some of the farmers wouldn't mind if you trapped some groundhogs out of the fields however I'm not sure what the regs are for that. When I was a kid we trapped groundhogs every summer in Pa.

Check with the Pa F&G dept for the regs.

Talk to some landowners to see if they are having any problems If you know any adults they may know people who can help you out. While you are learning tell them you will only charge by the animal And yes, make sure all is legal-always check regs.
I started in a similar fashon when I was a kid. I asked my dad how to trap muskrats,he was not a trapper but he worked with a couple people who trapped and I got started thru them.

Talk to a CO, it’ll be different everywhere. Even the municipality/county will give you bad info….they don’t mean to, they just don’t know. I just finished my first summer beaver job. Let me tell you, you’ll find out quick if you really like trapping or not!…lol. The worst place to ask a legal question is on social media.

He Here is the Pennsylvania code governing nuisance animal control and operators. For those trapping during the summer not on their own properties as landowners.
