How nice! I love watching his older stuff. I have a water trapping vhs and he was eating a box of chocolate covered cherries in the beginning! grin

I can't remember the year, it could have been 85 or 86 when I was there as a student, but I also had Tom for a day as an instructor. My main instructor was Kermit Stearns. Tom put on great evening classes in the classroom at the FTA college. That was one of the best weeks of my life being there.

His new hardback book is quite a read... he's "been there, done that". It takes a lot of drive to accomplish what he has.

The 1985 FTA trappers college was held at the Brandon Springs youth camp, located in Land Between the Lakes, Tennessee. Sept. 22-28. It cost $525.

Kermit Stearns was there, and I got some instruction from him also....Major Boddicker, Red Edgemon, Dan DeZarn, Jerry Joe Barnett, Charles Park, James Lee, and a bunch more I'm not recollecting at the moment.

Remember hanging out with Jeff Smith of Montana, and went coyote calling with him one night...He turned me on to coyote vocalizations, something that wasn't done here at the time because the coyote had just migrated here a couple years prior.

Charles Park talked me into talking on camera with the Ky Afield host Jeremy Dreier while there, and it aired soon after, so a very memorable experience for a young man in his 20's.

I learned the most from Tom Miranda, our ages were close enough that relating with him socially was easy, and what a encyclopedia of trapping knowledge he was...Couldn't have asked for a better instructor....Major Boddicker, Kermit Stearns, and Dan DeZarn were great as well.

I have one of his books, it was a good informative read. Never met the man, but he seems to be a people person and not a stuck up snob.

I turned 18 and moved to Columbus Ohio to go to school in the late 90's. My first apartment was on the East side of Columbus where 70 crosses the 270 loop. It was strange moving from the county to the city and my new spot wasn't the roughest place in town but it wasn't average either. I went from hunting and fishing everyday to trying to be an adult in the concrete jungle. Come to find out Tom grew up a couple blocks South of where my college apartment was. Its amazing to think that in the 70's/80's he was trapping all of that ground just inside the outer belt over there on the East side. That was his start. Amazing to consider really. He has worked hard and came a long way.

Know a fellow who worked in the film crew in the 80s. Traveled all over the world since then.

He's always so enthusiastic when he's talking sometimes he reminds me of a young kid and that's a good thing. That way you never grow old to some people.

You still have a working vhs player!!! My last one broke at least 7 years ago and I was told no one makes them any longer.

Heck I think we tossed all our old vhs tapes after I could not find a new player. Had some traping tapes at one time to. Wish I had them now so I could sent them to anyone who could use them.

There are companies that can turn your old VHS tapes into DVDs or other forms of digital storage. No idea on cost.
