Gosh, I must have 30 of these laying around.......

My buddy fills them up and his program doesn't look easy OR safe to me......

Anyone have good experience with this and know of a quality connector/valve/gauge apparatus that makes this simple and safe??

Thanks

a buddy of mine filled them , and easy and safe are not part of the program

they make fillable ones they cost more but then get easier and safer

I just got a 5# cyclinder it uses the same valve and fitting as a 20# but it is small and much easier to carry.
a little bigger than a gallon of milk
they were 49 dollars at menards but considering the 1# are 5 dollars each I figure in 2 fills this will have almost paid for the cost of the tank , my son works at the hardware store part time and fills it for me I just put it in his truck before he leaves for work
he uses enough of my oil and such that he doesn't charge me for a little LP.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I refill some to use for casting sinkers and muzzleloader bullets. Have had no problems. I only seem to get them 3/4 full by weight. I have an old propane stove and a few green bottles I keep separate for lead casting work so I don't get lead residue on something we want to cook with. I just use the refill valve from the local hardware.

Harbor Freight sells some type of fitting that can be used to refill the smaller bottles. There are also several YouTube videos on the subject.

I run adapter hoses on all my heaters, so I run 20lb bottles on everything.

I put the green bottles in the freezer for a couple hours and keep the 20 pound bottle as warm as possible. Screw the adapter between the two with the 20 upside down. Open 20 valve until you can’t hear it filling anymore. Probably 25-40 seconds. Never had a problem.

I use to refill them. Lots of them !

Simple brass adapter that screwed into tank.

Back then I just flipped the tank over. The disposable cylinders have an inverted valve stem you could pull out with a needle nose to bleed vapor to increase capacity for liquid. Trick was to fill to weight of factory filled cylinder. I used the digital paint mixing scale and it was effortless.

I went to a distribution Post on a 20# and hoses to appliances and didn’t really use enough cylinders. I maybe buy 1 -2 disposable cylinders a year for a portable grill now.

Cheap brass adapter, 1# bottles in freezer for a few hours, donor bottle in full sun.
Works good enough for me
