Dress nicely!! No pants hanging around your knees. No holes in your jeans no matter how fashionable it is. Neatly combed hair. Clean hands. This is just like going on a job interview.

Be polite. If they say no, accept it and move on. No arguing.

Good Luck

Most the time they say no because they think traps are "cruel"

What type of property owners are you talking to? You should be talking with “real farmers”, ones that actually farm the land. They should be more receptive to trapping than “gentleman farmers”.

Just mention BMP's and you are golden.

Don't forget Traceable, Certifiable, and Sustainable, if that doesn't work.

Best Management Practices.

Ask Boco. It is mostly a Canadian thing, in my opinion. Caused the collapse of the coyote market, again MY opinion!!

Drive around the general area and look for a sweet corn patch and simply ask if they are having raccoon damage and you will "thin them out" this fall. Very few farmers or gardeners want raccoons and even fewer want coyotes or beavers.

After you obtain permission, mail the landowner a thank you note and include a post paid, pre addressed post card. Ask the land owner to drop a note in the mail is he moves livestock or has any other concerns you should know about.

Never got a card back. Sadly, no more free hunting land.
