We've not done a Mountain Goat Photo Phriday before, not because I haven't spent a lot of time around them, but because my photos are not too good. Very interesting critter, and very unique. Not really a goat, deer, or antelope, they are related to the Himalayan tahr.

Throughout their North American range, they prefer sub-arctic living, and always where they can get to vertical cliffs for escape cover. This is near the mouth of Columbia glacier, near Valdez, where I used to hunt them. Typical goat habitat.



This is a harvested 10.5" billy from Columbia Glacier country.



They are often curious animals, and I've had them right in camp. This is Alaska, in the alpine of the Chilkat Mountains.



This is an old, crippled goat not in typical habitat, sagebrush near my house in east-central Idaho.

I didnt know they are in the Tahr arena, Jack. I like that, because I really love the interesting types of the world. The Himmie Ibex and Marco Polo sheep are my favorites . Someday Ive wanted to do a collection of those different kinds , all together on two or more sheets of paper , as a set.

I have been very close to Mountain goats in Glacier Park. They are halfway tame.

Watched a documentary on Mountain Goats and was mesmerized by the places they inhabit and their size.

I chased goats on the Kenai. Some of the most dangerous hunting there is due to the terrain they inhabit.

Never had the opportunity to hunt one, but like sheep one of the coolest thing about goats is the county they live in.

white17 - wetdog had it. Those are simply flags of surveyors tape tied to bear fencing (electric). High in the mountains of the Chilkat Peninsula, there were plenty of bears.

I been on goats hunts and I can tell you it is the most challenging hunt one can ever be on. They live in the highest peaks at the top in the rock and slides. From winds, snow, ice and in the most treacherous terrain there is, hunting goats is for the very fit and adventurous person. Toughest hunt of all big game in the US that I have been on.

Vey cool! I still apply every year for one of the five Nevada goat tags. Unfortunately I don't have enough years left to ever accumulate enough points to ever have a real chance, lol
