I bought a 2024 Yamaha Viking VI, the canvas top it comes with is junk and a joke. I ordered a metal top from Ranch Armor in Texas with prewired front and back LED light bars.
Here’s my question: I’m sure the LED’s aren’t drawing much amperage. I want the lights wired key-on, by the firewall on the UTV I found a key-on 12volt accessory port, can I add a female adapter to the wire harness of the top and plug & play or do I need to add a relay?

you need the specs on the lights

and you need to know what that accessory wire is fused for

we now have LEDs that Draw more power than you might think , they also make crazy light

the manufacturer should be able to give you a amp rating for the lights

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I'd find something else that already comes on when you want them to come on and put them into that circuit. There are LED lights that draw current but those would be spot lights. I think you are talking like ground accent right? They can tie into anything most likely. Start there and get more complicated if you have to.

Personally I would use the key on power through a light switch to power a relay (Coil). Dedicated fused power feed from the battery though the relay(contacts) for the lights. Makes it nice to be able to isolate a problem this way.

This is what I would do also for front and back facing lights to see where I am going. If you are installing work lights to use when the UTV is parked, I would tie them in individually through the key switch. Always use a relay when possible. It normally makes the lights brighter with the light power straight off the battery and control power off of accessory switches. Make sure all circuits are protected by proper size fuses or circuit breakers. It will protect the wiring if a wire gets pinched or cut and grounds out on something connected to the frame. I would also run the wire in something to protect it like split loom or a heavy tubing.

You can tie into the existing wiring harness for the lights for key/lights on. Eric

Make sure they have a switch, auxiliary lights on UTVs need to be turned off or dimmed when approaching vehicles are within 500 feet.
