How do I do it? I don't like using my feet because I don't know what I step on and stuff. And I think it's cooler to set with my hands. I'm strong enough just don't know how to do it.

I knee down on the ground and put my hands on the leavers on the side of trap, then I put my knee on the jaw a to keep the jaws down then I set the dog. How do you put your hands? Like push down or do you do it like hoe other peo people do it with there hand sideways?

Some things you just gotta figure out on your own. And I don’t think there’s anyone on here that sets traps with their hands because it makes them feel cool. Grow into it!
Ps. If you need to ask how to do it, you are not strong enough.

Ps. If you need to ask how to do it, you are not strong enough. Yep. Who are you trying to impress? For my MB 550’s, most of the time I use trap setters and set them on the tail gate of my truck. Nothing cool about it but it gets the job done with my old arthritic hands.

I feel like a weak boy when I use my feet lol
I can compress the springs just can't get the jaws.
I use my feet for my #2 and #3 traps. I have a pair of setters I use for my MB750’s.

I knee down on the ground and put my hands on the leavers on the side of trap, then I put my knee on the jaw a to keep the jaws down then I set the dog. This is how I set No BS extremes and Duke 550/650. I have to use setters to do the MB650. I just cannot get use to the trigger.

So you are a weak boy, then. J.P. !!! w No sense in bruising up your hands setting traps. I thought you died a few days ago. I guess not.

Hard to explain, but on your leg, use the bottom of your palms below your pinkies, compress and roll your hands over the jaws to hold them open. Hold open with one hand and set up the trigger with the other. For 330's, place them on the ground arms vertical and hold the closed jaws with your hands. In one motion, step on the arms at the same time and open the jaws as the springs compress. Hold jaws open and set the trigger. Should take less than 5 seconds but beeeee careful! I used to use setters for 750s and B#9s but found out that they can be set by the foot in the field when the setters are way out by the snowmobile...lol.
Check youtube, there's gotta be a bunch

It sure doesn't hurt to ask questions, but sometimes the reward is greater when you figure things out on your own. To me, that is what makes trapping so fun and challenging. There is an absolute ton of information in the archives; all you have to do is go and look. If you can't find what you are looking for there, you can always check out YouTube. Again, there's nothing wrong with asking questions, but don't be afraid to do your own homework. I think it will make you a better trapper in the long run.

Any way you can get them set works. Don't worry about being a bit weak. The strength will come. No one starts out bench pressing 300lb. That said technique will off set strength some. Just need to learn what works best for you. Like above trap on the ground palms on the ears pushing down knee pushing down to help on the jaw. You can move your hand and engage the dog. Eventually you will be able to set #5s standing up just using your hands. Just because you can doesn't mean you will. Other way may be easier. Nothing wrong with figuring out and using a easier method.
