I watched some videos on there approach habits. I believe it 'teachers of the night' thinking locklear. Anyway, it was very fascinating. When you watch the way they come to and than away from it. Almost like touch and go til they either commit or don't. I know after watching them I did some different things like one in front at 12 and 3. And than another on the side blended really good. It worked good for me.

I mentioned using two traps once during a demo and got jumped all over by the "big numbers" boys. Let me say that most of the time I only use one trap per set and multiple sets per farm or location. However, there is a time and place to use two traps and it is worth the effort. I laugh when I hear the old argument that it takes too much time. If it takes you two days to set your 'line instead of one day but you reduce misses and up your catch ratio, by the end of ten days you may be ahead. Do the math. I like to use my big traps and two traps per set in late season, bad weather and at staked baits. Also, when I feel the need to put in a completely open set with very little guiding for coyotes.

For cat sets, I use at least two traps for each location, but not each set. Too many things can go wrong with non-targets, a cat avoiding one set, etc. so if it's a good enough location for one trap, I always put at least two. Most coyote sets are the same. Lots of sets within 3-10 feet of one another so I guess it's a fine line between what is a set and what is a location. I've had lots of places over the years where I set 5-8 sets within a 30 foot circle and had 2-4 coyotes on a check. Same with grey fox. I think the mindset should be "how many traps does this spot need," vs "should I set two traps at this one bait hole."

Some guys will do handstands to catch a double.

I sure miss high numbers grey fox trapping. Old as I am, I likely won't see our greys recover enough to ever trap them like I used to.

With a little work, I've caught over 200 a few differnt times/seasons down here....while working a full time job.

They were my bread and butter species for years. Now, they're all but gone.
