A movie set is a whole different ball game when it comes to weapons. The actors rely heavily on the armorer to ensure the correct ammo is loaded for scenes. In a lot of instances basic gun safety rules can cause massive delays because of actors ensuring the weapon is safe. They don't load the ammo, or put the safety on. They're basically handed the weapon and told it's clear, safe, what have you. Any checking of the weapon can cause the weapon to malfunction and/or become unsafe. Thus why it's the armorers sole responsibility to ensure the weapon is "ready to go".
How many weapons do you see in movies that are shot directly at a camera? How many of those weapons do you think were individually checked by the actor? The answer is easy.... Absolutely 0. Despite everything that I adhere to with gun handling safety I have to agree with what elkaholic says.

As he should have. Even if he's a strange dude. He wasn't in charge of loading and assuring the safety of the gun. They had a specialist for that. Disagree. I 've been a firearms instructor for about 20 years. You never point a real firearm, loaded or unloaded at a person. Doesn't matter if you're positive it's not loaded. And you certainly don't pull the trigger. Baldwin claims he never pulled the trigger. So, it went off by itself? The pistol was checked by several firearm experts who said Baldwin's claim was impossible. There was no doubt he pulled the trigger. He should be in prison. Agree!

He should of went to prison he should feel what the little people feel without millions in the bank. If you even have a job, either work harder or get a better one instead of whining about others who have achieved more than you. As for Baldwin, charges should have never been filed.

I guess this negates one of the basic tenets of gun safety. Always check the weapon, even if you trust the person who hands it to you and says " don't worry, it's not loaded". Agree! When I was a kid and my father was teaching me safe gun handling procedures, the thing he stressed the most was to always make sure that the muzzle is pointed in a safe direction and that applies even when you are positive that it is not loaded. In the case, Baldwin not only pointed it at someone, he pulled the trigger! I can't stand the guy but lot of this is just ridiculous.. He wasn't pointing the gun at a person . HE WAS POINTING IT AT THE CAMERA in a scene. Unfortunately the lady killed was behind the camera Just watch action movies and notice how many times there is a straight on view of someone firing a gun. TONS The one to be hanged is the idiot that brought the box of shells so they could target shoot during down time. PLUS the woman armorer. She was blantly lazy. I bet she opened the cylinder , saw it was loaded and didn't think to see if live or blanks. THEN also she might have never dreamed live rounds were on set if she wasn't one who "target practiced" earlier in the day.

A mor My point, you are handed what is reasonably known to be potentially deadly item.
At what point is it your own due duty to determine for yourself the safety of a particular act?
A more applicable scenario. We have a get together and hire a professional to handle the firework display, the professional hands you the ignitor to get the show going and gives you instructions on how to do it, you follow the instructions and the windows blow out, who's at fault?
