We do not have many fox around me, seeing more. A friend has a chicken set up with a family of fox digging under. He has tried trapping to no avail, I am considering setting up a snare or two near the fenced area. I wouldn't mind a suggestion on snare size, and height off-ground, and any ADC type advice is welcome.
Thanks

For snare or cable restraint for fox have it 6 to 8 off the ground and a 6 to 8 in loop. Make sure ur snare is dipped so it isn't shiny and deters the animal. You might need to have a snare support and a Y shaped stick.

What is the "chicken setup" and what are they digging under?

My "setup" is an 8 x 12 chicken house, built on skids so as to be portable. It has a dirt floor. To prevent "digging under", the house was set in place, then a dig apron of 2 foot wide x 1" x 2" welded wire was placed around the house. Laid flat on the ground, then about 4 inches or so was bent in an L shape and stapled to the skid runners. Grass grew up thru the flat on the ground apron and I mow over the top of it. Many, many times have found where some varmint attempted to dig in, only to hit the wire. They will cast up and down along the edge, but never figure out they have to back up a few feet and tunnel their way in. A lot of folks use hardware cloth for this, but laid flat on the ground, the wire will immediately start to rust. Hardware cloth not durable enough to last.

Biggest mistake most new chicken folks make with their housing is to favor "cute" and cheap over sturdy. Been a lot of chickens killed in one cheaply built but cute looking death trap or another.

Hang it where they are digging under. I would imaging its just big enough for them to squeeze through. The only thing is what type of netting the guy is using. The fox might be alive long enough to do some damage.

If theres no crawlunders around the fence, work back to cover and snare the trails, thats where I've caught most of the chicken killers

Square in the open they will circle. Choke down a couple places, not too tight and hang them there.
