Is the funny Savage trigger still used today?
That spooked me from a trade deal. My loss.

If I was looking to buy a new 22-250 sporter weight today, it would be a Tikka. I would get the 1:8 twist barrel for the advantage to shoot heavy bullets if you want but still shoot down to 50gr if you want.

I have always stayed away from the cheap versions of rifles being produced. Not that they don’t shoot well, it is just not my preference. My son has a Savage 12FV in 204 that outperforms most custom rifles. He bought it at Cabelas Black Friday sale 7-8 yrs ago for $199 after rebates. Only thing changed was pulled the limp factory stock and bedded it in a Stockade stock.

As I mentioned in another post, shot with guy using a Ruger Ranch II in 6 ARC last weekend and was very impressed. Enough so I’m seriously looking at them.

I’ve got a Remington model 700 Varminter 22-250 and it shoots like it has eyes, 50 grain flat base bullets!

Tikka, great call. 1:8 twist, unless you want to punch paper, stick to the 1:12 barrels. Tried and true, time tested, even though the you tube fanboys may cry otherwise. If you are using for predator or varmint control you will be more than happy I’d bet. Go with what works, not what some kid with little actual knowledge directs. I have a couple 788’s that shoot the 70 grain pills from Speer perfectly fine, and do the same with pills down to the 40’s that I’ve loaded for them over the years. They are a 1:14 I’m pretty sure…

I’m waiting for Ruger to add them to the Gen 2 line and I might break down and get one.
