Not very exotic......just fat and meat scraps from smoked meats. From now on, I'm saving that stuff.

Month or so back, smoked a BIG fatty brisket and had a big glob of fat between point and flat left as scrap. Was looking at it thinking a shame to dump it, then dawned on me.......big chunk of smoky fat ought to work in a dirt hole. So froze it until later use. Once hay was off the ground, put a chunk of fat about size of pack of cigs plus a few pork rib bones in a dirt hole. Some call lure on post behind camera. They were on it two days later. Hole they dug out looked like a land mine went off.

BTW, this was only 4 or 5 days ago. About 200 yards from my back door. 100 yards from neighbor's back door. Houses all around. Coyotes too.

Yep good stuff. I have a local restaurant that smokes meat weekly and the owner saves me a bucket of scraps. They will definitely blow it out .I try to freshen up my holes about once a week.

making bait piles will help your numbers a bit but in general if you trap them the coyotes will stop coming same for dead livestock or road kill you may catch one or two at them but than they smarten up or just dont come at all

Would they keep coming if you trapped them on the travels ways to the bait piles?

Regarding trapping bait piles, that could very well be true. But I was not making a bait pile. I was just using a different form of homemade bait to put in bottom of a dirt hole. Smoked meat scraps, pork spare rib bones, and chunks of smoked beef fat vs. a jar of bait. BTW, as a test, I also left a big chunk of charcoal with fox urine on it as a pee post about 20 feet or so off to the side. Trail camera video of them working the fake set........not one of them even sniffed the pee post. They walked right past it.

Thinking the results from using charcoal would be that charcoal is also used as a deodorizer so the yotes paying no attention does not surprise me.

Haha, talked to a guy once that swore he killed over 150 coyotes a year on Ole Roy dog food from Walmart. He had a stand set up in a clear cut and would pour a bag out a week. He’d wait until the full moon periods and sit in a deer stand about 75yds away and shoot multiple coyotes a night. 3-4 nights a month and he said they’d just keep coming.

Oh the memories! I caught my first red fox on a chicken bone close to 40 years ago.
