How do you's figure CR's are less humane than snares? Because snares are lethal so the critter isn't caught long before dying?

Does that way of thinking mean CR's and footholds are inhumane because they hold a critter until the next check?

We got CR's as a compromise to dog-owners. They are a good additional tool and I have caught plenty of red fox in CR's when footholds stopped working due to weather.

I've never used snares so I guess I don't know what I'm missing.

Seen to much absolutely cruel stuff before I learned to use cable that was lethal.

I've caught a lot of red fox in CR's. When set with no entanglement per PA regulations I've never had an issue. I've rolled up on quite a few that were napping, just like they do sometimes while held by footholds.

Basically a dog on a leash.

What about coyotes? Or coons?

I have snared very few fox. Those in lethal configurations. Cats generally die no matter what kind of lock is used if neck snared.

My reasons for trying out the CR is because my fox had a “dead” frozen foot when I caught him in a foothold this year. Not because my foothold was ineffective due to weather. My dirt is dried and mixed with sifted peat moss so that’s prob why the trap fired in the first place. I wanted CR’s in case of a non target, in really cold weather, that wouldn’t sustain damage to a foot that went without circulation for so long.
But I understand that cats don’t do well with anything wrapped around their neck…so is this a bad idea too?

There's not a lot of bobcats in my area so I've never personally caught one in a cable but have seen some videos of them being caught and they're just fine. If the relaxing lock is operating per design it's not an issue, and they can be released unharmed. I've not had any issues with coyotes being injured in my cables either. As lug already stated if using the proper equipment and avoiding entanglements/ drop off areas you'll be fine.

Uses snairs with deer stops for fox , basically a CR
Farrow cats were unharmed as long as there was no entanglement.
In the bird habitat I was snairing they were also a target species. But i had the option to turn them loose.
I've CRd fox around my home and caught and released my own cats unharmed. The key is no entanglement.

That makes me feel better. There are definitely kitties in one area where I trap and I’m certain some are peoples pets because they aren’t real spooked when we come in to hunt deer. I released a big black Tom cat from my mb 450 and he did just fine. Two days later I saw him on the trail cam hunting chipmunks!

I've cabled more than a dozen bobcats with fox and coyote cable restraints, with a good stop and no entanglement the cats will be fine.

I better say here I have never used a stop. I do use a breakaway in case somebodies live stock gets out. When I said cat I was talking about bobcats. Cant remember ever catching a domestic cat in one.
