The wife and I are planning on being in New Jersey around mid September. I would like to avoid big city areas. I'm looking for somewhere to go ocean fishing and maybe catch some blue crab. Party boat would be ok but would like a trip farther out. Anyone have any ideas for something south of big city area?

Check out Tom's river or wildwood there both next to the ocean.

When I was working on the I 95 project I would drive out to Long Beach Island and Pullen Island and cast Little Cleo spoons for Blue Fish and Stripped Bass.
I figured it worked for salmon, and it did for saltwater fish.

Feel free to message me....

I grew up at the beach, and fish/crab/clam down there pretty regularly still. Depending on what area you are going to be in, I'm happy to give you some suggestions on charters, party boats or places to go crabbing/clamming.

Thank you to everyone who offered tips to me. I had never heard about squid jigging. That looks like something I want to try. My wife is maybe trying to back out, says she doesn't want to go on a fishing trip. I guess I might have to look for a fishing buddy. I appreciate all the help, seems to be a good bunch on here.

I got my squid jigs today. My wife actually volunteered to help at the church when I wanted to go to Jersey so I may be going solo. Anyone want to go fishing on NJ coast second week of September? I would enjoy some company. I'm not a big drinker so I won't get you in any trouble in that respect. Wife actually suggested I go without her.

Look up the big Jamaican, gambler, voyager, for head boats in mid jersey. They target offshore species then mid Sept. Tuna,, mahi, swords, tiles on the offshore trips 50-100 miles out. Trips are 22-36 hours or so. If you get seasick I wouldn't go on them.

I've been checking out the gambler, that's where I heard about squid fishing. I figured a couple rides on a head boat and maybe try squid fishing off a pier somewhere. My wife backing out on me is causing me some grief but she said today go without her. I can do that. Now I'm looking for a fishing buddy.

I lived in Connecticut back in 1992 for around 6 months. The most popular ocean baits were bunker and bloodworms.
