If 4 to 5 inches of rain made it fail Id be worried about every dam constructed in the area.

There's a lot of old infrastructure all around the nation. Think we are just seeing the tip of the iceberg.

If your bathtub is empty 5 '' water no problem, if your tub is full and add 5'' then you are going to need a bigger over flow.

I64 is shut down East Of Nashville, lost one commercial truck.

that is the 4-5 we got last night , things were at flood stages a week ago in most of southern WI down through central ILL

we just keep getting hammered

I have around 6 inches since Saturday and most of the storms went south of us , some north of us
all very narrowly missing my part of green county but only by a few miles in some cases.

multiple tornadoes last night

Rockford is flooding and all that water goes south.

also yes not at all uncommon for infrastructure in forgotten about ILL to be 60 years old maybe older , after all there is a reason we call it Forgotten about ILL.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Dam did NOT fail, it overtopped, but, it's still a dangerous situation.

Forever wars.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

From what I see the same thing happened July 26 2022. Here is an article that explains how the dams are made to work, I guess? Don't think I would want to build back in a toilet bowl.

They are saying on local news I-64 is open all local state highways are not. They had 20 minutes to evacuate 200 households and businesses and no reports of any injuries, so good job on that!

Seems like a poor set up. They got 7 inches in a short while. Building stuff on a 100-500 yr flood plain seems reasonable until you get it every other year. Drainage now days dumps the water all at once and more and more concrete, and it doesn't soak up much so it has to run someplace and now a days we hope its on the other guy. Seems like a "Love Thy Neighbor" sermon in there someplace, lol.

I just got a report from a neighbor girl that had to have her husband to St Louis yesterday to get a rod put in his tibia and other bone restructuring . They left early enough and they did drive thru water but beat the flood closing I-64 and the surgery was successful.
He was one of the four missionaries from a local church that had a crash off a very high road in Arizona while on their way to build a home for a needy family back in November. The driver had heart failure and drove off the road. The other 3 were all young, one lost an arm, one is still having nerve implants and my neighbor had a broken arm and crushed his leg from knee down and had plates and screws that had to all be removed and starting over with a rod in his tibia and a new place to build from.
When I heard I-64 was going under water I had great concern for those kids, But God has brought them this far thru things that was no fault of theirs so surely there is a purpose and plan there!

Floodwalls/levees stick in my craw....People with no sense build down low, then encapsulate themselves while flooding people who initially had the sense to build on higher ground.

Hope all remain safe there.

A few years back (on the way to bowhunt in north Missouri) I drove thru Nashvile, GA, Nashville, TN, and Nashville, IL all in same day. I got a breakfast biscuit at the Nashville, IL McDonald's. Nice little town..
