They work really well once the dog gets trained to it. My wife’s English setter learned to heel on one. My English never wore one. I saw the benefit of one while we trained my wife’s dog. Eric

Do they work any better than a collar? Looks to like it just makes it more comfortable for your dog to pull on u

I think it is more comfortable for the dog but seemed to reduce the pulling urge in my experience. Eric

Exactly right. It just distributes pulling power. For walks, if doggy pulls? I recommend a halter head collar also called gentle leader.
Also harnesses are not recommended for tie out periods. They can get hung up and escape or get injured.

Harnesses are for pulling or for small dogs that you may want to lift out of danger.

I would break the dog to a leash first, I have used a sport dog collar on the last three dogs works well IF you follow the book.

Tried ONE on a pure bred lab and he escaped it every time.
I couldn't believe it.
But as above said I tied him out.

We actually got saddle bags for our cur. Had a heck of a time breaking him to a leash to walk. Once we put the bags on, we dropped 5# of rice in each one. He walked real well. I think it made him focus a bit, like his job wad to walk now, not hunt. Even ran up to 2 miles a day with those bags on.

No discounts. No discounts for nobody. That’s how it is. Vet med is advancing and expanding and it is getting harder to find help. Gotta pay these techs for busting their hump. I never wanted to say this but buy pet insurance if you really care. Y’all’s gonna need it

Good way to get a working dog hung up. Jumping or going through fences in the woods they have a tendency to snag stuff.

At that point I think I toss good money at a new pup..

I have no need for a harness in that style for my dog.

They make ones with an extra leash ring at front where a normal collar is. This is good position to use for when the dog wants to walk too fast. Attaching to the harness on the back allows the dog to own you until you get it trained to behave.

I should add when we walked BuckShot with his bags, the leash got clipped to one of those pronged choke collars, not the bags.
