I have piles of 1/2” rebar laying around here at the shop so decided to make some drags for myself going to bend points a little more at the angles you did yours. Weighs 3.25 pounds.

Because I know nothing about drag design, what's the purpose of the small rod in the shallow V shape?

I don't "know" the answer but I would say to hang them for storage?

It's so the chain is less likely to get fouled up and cause the drag to run backwards.

Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

That makes a lot of sense, thanks.

To help the chain slide off to prevent it getting wrapped around the prongs.

You could do that from the other end. I thought somebody wanted to support the cross bar.

Thanks bud. I like em! I have my triangular drags I make but like I said I have piles of 1/2” rebar pretty much got it for free so that’s a plus they will work for me haha. I was going to use 1/2” cold rolled I got at the shop I plan for other products but since these are for my own use I kept it cheap and used the rebar. I’m going to lengthen the taper of the point so first three inches will be smooth on the rest of em.

There you go ! That longer taper will definitely make them work better

Also if you start doing singles instead of doubles a more aggressive inwards bend and dep prong angle makes them work way better and corkscrew into the ground

I don't make drags but I use them as much as anyone I know and I agree. More weight isn't bad but can easily be offset by more aggressive prong angles and / or a longer chain.
The aggressive prongs leave a lot more sign on open ground.

8-10 feet or more of chain is a must

Agree all my drags have 10 to 15’ of chain on them no matter what style drag I’m using. Oh left lane it’s not a drag but figured you’d love seeing this. [Linked Image]

My preferred drag of use is my heavier triangular drag for its added benefit of wedging capability other drag styles can’t do. But they all work well and hey can’t have enough drags laying around haha!
