Had our first litter of piglets here at the house this morning. 8 healthy old spot x Duroc crosses. Excited to grow one of these out and see how they do

They like them and enjoy hanging out down there, but they know what they are there for. My oldest (in the picture) has mentioned a few times “we’re not gonna eat such and such pig, are we?” I just tel her that’s why we have them. She’s also the one who is always at my heels wanting to “help me” clean deer, pigs, chickens, fish, etc. We raise meat birds, process family cows, and have egg layers so our children know that our food mostly comes from the yard. Luckily I think we started them early enough that they didn’t have a chance to think it was weird or too traumatizing

I agree when they know from day one that animal is food and there is never any question about it , they are proud they raised them and ate them.

my kids were young when we started raising meat birds , never any question they were going to the freezer and table , they never had any problem

it is when you wait to long and they get some dissolution about food , pushed by anti's
