I'm having a weird problem with my 2000 Tacoma. It's a manual five speed. Sometimes when I depress the clutch, the clutch pedal stays on the floor. I can pull it back up with the toe of my shoe, but when I depress it again, it falls flat on the floor. I cannot engage the clutch, so I have to start it while in first gear to get it going, then shift without the use of the clutch. I'll let it sit over night, and it works fine the next day. This happens about once every couple of months, and has been going on for a couple of years. Any guesses as to what the problem is?

Time for a new clutch! Just went through the same thing with my 2012 Tacoma. New clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing and new boot on the slave cylinder. About 1200 and good as new again.
Be thankful you're not getting all the government you're paying for!

But why only occasionally? If the seals were bad, they should be bad all the time. Fluid level stays fulll.

Does the clutch use a slave master on it?
Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

This happens about once every couple of months, and has been going on for a couple of years.
I'd be starting at the motor mounts, trans mounts, and cross member mount, with a stout pry bar. Clutch linkage next.

Slave cylinder is going bad. Same issues with a 96 ranger. Any oil leaks under the truck Or is it just bypassing ?

I just took it for a drive and it works perfect now. Should be good for another couple of months - lol. It's not something new. It's been happening for at least two years.

sounds like you fixed it paul. there is a hydralic slave cylinder that works the clutch when you step on it.check your fluid levels if you didnt already sounds like air in the line. take care.

Did your Ranger do it intermittently also? Yes it did. The slave cylinder was bypassing and would equal out while setting at night. Eventually it got weak enough that I lost my clutch pedal completely. Probably 2-3 months like that and then it got way more frequent . Replace it along with the other parts in there. ( clutch ect. ) was just short of 300,000 miles.

Is there a return spring that may be hanging up on some worn part?
