Does anyone know how the alligator hunting is in Georgia? Me and my buddy hunted South Carolina in 2022 and each harvested an alligator but it takes like 5 years to draw a tag. How hard is it to draw a tag in Georgia? I know there is zones like SC. Is there much public land to hunt them? is the water ways open to hunting? Just exploring other areas.

Have drawn and hunted both SC and GA a few times.
Deadline to apply was July 15 for both states.
Can apply for points only until you have enough.

Have only hunted tidal waters in both states.

Seminole is full of gators.
Heck, Lake Eufaula has gators.
The coast has gators.
I think the entire state has gators.
A lot of regs in place that have to be followed.
I’ve been putting in for points only and will eventually put in for my area here and hunt private land. Got some ponds with some big ole gators and want to try it legal.

Here is the draw results for 2024:

And here are the Hunt Zones:

Generally the zones with the best alligator populations require the most priority points to be selected. (well Duh)

I should definitely be able to draw next year and get picked if I choose to.

And I’ll add for the Georgia residents with children. My granddaughter is 3 and has 2 priority points for every adult/child and adult hunt out there. When her daddy decides she’s ole enough she’ll get first pic at whatever she chooses. I did the same with my boys when they were growing up. One WMA manager even questioned how we got picked multiple years in a row. At one time if you had 10pts and only needed 4 then wager 4 and get picked and keep your other points. We went on some awesome dove, duck, turkey, and deer hunts at our WMA’s.

Not as easy as one would think (to do it legally). Especially with gators that have been messed with.

A handheld line has to be attached to the gator b4 it can be dispatched. Can't legally shoot one outright like they do in Louisiana on Swamp People TV show.

Either a bow/crossbow/harpoon/HD rod & reel with handheld line attached to projectile or hook will have to be used to snag gator first....then get him up to bank or boat and dispatch with handgun or bankstick. Rifles not allowed.

It is bit of a challenge. And rightly so.

… for the record uncle Swamp… wasn’t game law that took my tools… was cops a town north of me

… but I got them back so them boys are in good condition lol

… game law just likes to give me tickets for major things… like improper tagging and public display of cold beer in the middle of the woods lol
