Taking a highway slanting down from Oregon to I70 is probably the best way to go. I70 is a reasonably maintained, well graded, major East/West route with plenty of gas stations, restaurants, hotels and repair shops if you need any of those.

Depending on where in OR might want to consider 84 east to 80 and then 80 east. Beats dropping all the way down to 70 and will actually be fewer miles

I-80 is a pretty good road, except Chicago sucks.

Salem area -- I just figured the farther from chicago and the least amount of time in Illinois is best.

Avon is a great area. Housing will be expensive but should be able to find something. I live about 40 miles from there.

84 to 80 to 74

To far north for me to give good area input. At least she will have more gun freedom here.

Looks like I70 would add 3 hours total.

The route I suggested avoids stuff like denver kc and st louis and the southern suburbs of chicago.. Its also pretty direct.

Danny hit the nail on the head with the route he posted.
I74 keeps you away from Chicago and St Louis as well. And 74 brings you in to the Indy area just a few miles north of Avon.

I would take the route Danny mentioned. Good luck keeping up because they fly across there. They used to have a lot of slow pitch softball tourneys in Avon if shes into that. They probably still do.

Looks like he needs another year;-)
