Bit of a bucket list item for me, short visit to the Okefenokee Swamp. We saw a female gator on a nest and since she was right beside the walkway, we were only a few feet away from her. I think I need to come back without wife and kids to go canoeing and fishing.
$5 per carload totally worth it.

You were less than 30 miles from my home....if you were on the western side. Should've hollered....I could've showed you gators much closer than at the Swamp.

Were you on the east side or west?

Those vast pine plantations and swamps on the western edge of the Swamp are my stomping grounds.

We went in on the Eastern side because that's where the welcome center was and I had no idea what to expect LOL. I'm pretty sure I will be coming back solo at some point. I've been planning to do a gator hunt in the next 2-5 years but it looks like GA regs may be not as easy as FL.

Did you get to experience our State insect??? The Gnat?

I read a book about it in jr high and it has been on my bucket list ever since. Maybe in the next year or two.

No bugs at all. Lots of.dragonflies and butterflies but no skeeters, horseflies, deer flies or no see UM's.

I've spent most of my life in and around the Swamp....fishing, hunting, and trapping. About 80% of the Okefenokee is owned by USFWS and is a NWR.

Also spent my 27 years as a GW patrolling the interior lakes and boat runs and all around the vast timberlands of the perimeter.

It is a special place!
