I’m on a Corn/Bean rotation, I utilize corn as screening for entering and exiting stand locations on my property undetected. In a soybean year, every deer can glass you as soon as you step into the field, this is my first year planting a screening barrier. I’m a fan of all Grandpa Ray Outdoors products, John O’Brion, the owner is a Ruminant Nutritionist and sells some of the best seed blends I’ve found- he spends a lot of time and money on research. We’ve had numerous thunderstorms with 60 mph winds and no lodging has occurred. I’ve seen other companies that have some blends that contain invasives, if you have a similar application- it’s a great option.

We put strips of Pearl and Egyptian in our dove fields as cover for hunters and it provides cover for quail and turkeys after the field is burned off.
That’s a cool idea of how you’re using it!

I plan to brush hog it, hydrogen peroxide it and follow with annual clovers.

Awesome screen. I’ve got a sandier, more acidic soil on my hunting land - any idea if it would handle that well?

My buddy has been pushing me to plant Miscanthus but I’m not such a fan of the rhizomes multiplying, spreading, and requiring a lot of work to remove.

How does that hold up in the Fall once it starts to get cold? Does it fall over?

Good question.

If undisturbed, it’ll stand for a while. Then again we don’t have Wisconsin winters either. It also makes a good hide for calling coyotes.

Grandpa Rays is all I have used for years. Great product and support. Looking good. I was out mowing with a swisher today for 6 hours. Working on low plots that are too wet and soft to get a tractor into this. Needing a dry stretch of weather.

The standability of the Egyptian Wheat is enhanced by the shorter growing millet and sorghum, it props it up. I saw it in the GRO research block in Watertown, WI, this spring- we had a milder winter by the stand was impressive.
