Not political--more ethical.

Oklahoma passed a "Camping" ban criminalizing the homeless, or whoever, from camping in medians, under bridges, etc. It becomes effective November 1. Other states have done the same. I haven't read the recent US Supreme Court decision, but according to reports I've read, it's constitutional.

I was driving to the office in OKC this morning and drove by one of the many tent cities. It's gross and clearly a problem. I can tell you the solution is not throwing tax dollars at it, but I also struggle with fining or jailing people for existing on public property--even if gross, whacked out mentally or on drugs/booze.

To be clear, the people in these tent cities and otherwise wandering around OKC are not like John J. Rambo walking the earth in search of his Nam buddies. They are jacked up and in a bad place. They remind me of the Walking Dead.

What do y'all think about these bans? Is it a solution? If not, what is?

Step one is undoing Ronny Raygun's defunding of mental health facilities. Step two is give addicts pure pharmaceutical narcotics of there choice. As much as they want. They can kill their selves quickly. Set up a still. Sugar water yeast. Give the alky's all the ethanol they can drink. Wont take long.

It would be great if they woke up and became productive members of society. Not going to happen for most. Or just disappeared--we would have major moral and constitutional issues.

Some are mental. Some are self inflicted addicts. Some are both. I would imagine some are just down on their luck. It's complicated and I don't want or trust the government to handle it.

The city of Des Moines just passed a similar ban.
From what I've seen there, the homeless camps are mostly along the river and in other out of the way places, and not right out on city streets. But it is still public or private property not intended for that purpose.

It's treating a symptom rather than the cause. It's very short sited.

It's the equivalent of your kid "cleaning" their room by shoving everything under the bed.

Most are bums and don't want to work, don't want to be productive members of society, don't contribute taxes, leech off peoples charity...They are human weakness personified.

Just another blight on our country.

Slavery is still legal for those who are imprisoned. Arrest them and put them to work. The people who are down on their luck can go to shelters and seek help. The real losers may as well do forced public service somewhere.

A lot of them have a past that inflicts emotional and mental pain constantly and they try to escape the pain of that mental trauma by doing excessive amounts of drugs booze etc.
Very sad really, and if or when they have kids most wind up the same way.Problem today is lack of a social safety net to treat these people with mental issues.Back in the day lots of help was available to them to try to get them back to being somewhat productive members of society.Today those institutions of the past no longer exist. They wind up on the streets with all their mental baggage.

I always wonder where these people are getting food and money for drugs??? The more society supports and enables them the more there seems to be of them. You can help a person up if they want to get up put it's impossible to help them up if they don't want to get up. Some people are going to fail in live and no body can fix it. It's just natural. We've created such a big problem it's about impossible to fix it. Welfare has never help a society as a whole but we keep chasing the rabbit down that hole. Sometimes the right thing to do is the hardest thing to do.

Bring back vagrancy laws. Reopen the state/county work farms and asylums.

Erase no fault divorce from the books, restore the nuclear family, make shame work again.

Most importantly put God first in society and the home.

Yes they offered help to the mentally ill with staff and doctors in the psychiatric hospitals treating them round the clock.
Today they are turned out on the street with a few safe places to shoot up their drugs.
I think you are likely fairly young and naive
