Anyone know if marten use talus or boulder slopes much? Seems like a great source for hunting rodents in the winter. I have not seen any research in that direction, but watched a video clip from Norway, I believe, and in the summer marten were using the boulder fields extensively.

Yes, anywhere around the margins of a talus slope that is made up of large (refrigerator to truck sized) boulders is a marten paradise summer or winter; providing they can get to the boulders under the snowpack.

Oh ya. When I was ski trapping more they were hot spots. Sometimes it seems a little too open, but you cant argue with sign. Some were avalanche shoots and had plenty of spruce on either side. If it was bigger than 100yds I set both sides. There were a few fields that I went back to and lugged some sizable stobs and put them upright in the middle of the field. Put rocks around them to keep them upright. I had a lightweight pot setup i used. They stick out like a sore thumb and the tracks straight lining for it were just as rewarding as the fur. Easy checks to if you care to follow the set back rules. If I was in areas where skiers might be I always bumped em a little further off the trail. Being in parts of the Bob in December, no one was there.
