Pulled a pint off last night for an old school coon lure base. Date is off by a day, no biggie. I know it takes a lot less to attract coon and some would argue to keep this ingredient for more high value targets but, Lil’ Masked Raider goes back to my beginning and the guy that introduced trapping to me in the early 80’s. If I can keep his lure alive, in some ways I can keep him alive through his influence.

Nice looking fish oil. It appears to be much thicker then trout/salmon oil?
It would be handy to have a thicker fish oil when making paste type lures!
I have been using a little skunk oil when needed as a thickener.

Your mentor guy, would be happy knowing you are caring on the tradition he shared with you many years ago!!!

Decided to make a bigger batch, had to draw another pint and drew a quart of BTO while I had the equipment out. Mark, of all of the fish oil, this is my favorite. I use it in the Lil’ Masked Raider lure and a predator bait that I call Supernova. [Linked Image]

I used a slightly thinned spoonbill oil one year to squirt in elbow sets and the coons loved it at the top hole. Saw several coons in 110’s.

Nice looking stuff FDC. I'm surprised how dark the spoonbill gets.

I make walleye fish oil and it's a great additive or stand alone scent
Here's a pic of some. The darker stuff is 3-5 years old. The lighter oil is only a couple weeks old [Linked Image]

Here it is next to some BTO from last year

Walleye oil.....how is it to work with? Pleasant odor? Any noteworthy characteristics that stand out when compared to other fish oils?

Easy to work with like spoonbill oil [Linked Image]

Very pleasant odor lighter smell than other fish oils. Smells to me kind of earthy like warm topsoil and fish

Three to four days in the hot sun and it's liquid.
You can leave some of the intestines and organs in for a "fishier" smelling oil and a deeper amber color. How I make it it's about a 95% return of pure oil.

Thinking of putting a picture tutorial up on the trapping only forum.
Lots of people have access to walleye.

My oldest son lives in Ohio on Lake Erie. I might have to contract a batch out to him. whistle It looks good and sounds like it can be useful fairly quick.

A peek inside one of the spoonbill buckets after I dumped another gallon jar in to start consolidating. They are all being drawn down daily for the next week or so. They all spent the first few months in glass and yes, I own several hundred glass jars. lol
Does anyone else use athletic wrap to augment gas release and keep the bugs out? [Linked Image]

No but I use a similar cloth bought at Harbor freight (shop rags)
Then cover with a plastic quart or gallon bag

[Linked Image]

In the back of the photo you'll see a heavier white cloth with no plastic bags that I use on quart and half gallon jars with BTO
