I ordered some trout pellets for my fish. There was a mistake in the order that I didn't catch and I received twice the amount I ordered. These will last me a few years if I can store them. They are in 50 lb plastic bags with tiny air vent holes in the bags. My options are... freeze them (worried they might get slimy when thawed) or keep them in garage which is climate controlled to some extent. Any advice?

Can you vacuum seal?

The two main things that degrade are oxidation and humidity.

Vacuum sealing removes the bulk of the oxygen. Freezing deals with humidity issues.

Not sure about vacuum sealing.... I'll look into it. Thanks!

Better get more fish!, grin

the bucket idea with airtight lids is probably your best bet, you could even nitrogen purge before sealing like the prepper bulk foods.

Buy a 55gal drum with a sealable lid. I keep peanuts in barrels for months and they’re just as fresh as when I put them in up to 6 months later.

As long as mice don’t find them they will be fine in the garage.

Cheapo Depot sells a 5 gal bucket lid with a screw off/on center that is a LOT easier to use than the pry bar tool.
