Looking at have an abdominal hernia repaired pretty soon.
Worried about recovery time as I have a lot coming up this fall.
Anything to look out for ?

Just get the surgery and don't worry about recovery time. Not getting it done is what killed my grandfather. He kept putting it off because he "had too much to do".

I have had two, first one the old fashioned way. Slice open stitch a screen in close up. Second one was three small holes done robotically. First one I was in great shape running marathons, dating wild chicks. Second one married and a few pounds overweight. First one I was up and around in a little less than a week, bored out of my mind. Doctor gave me some good meds told me have a few drinks with them. I was up on the roof cleaning gutters and painting in a week. Got a refill but never took them. Second one I got Tylenol but only took them for 1 day. I figure it’s better to hurt than take something and not know I’m messing things up. I was up and around in maybe 3 days pretty much back to normal. Both of them I took a week off of work. I hauled trash so fairly physical job. Once in a while I still notice there is something different but not bad. Way better than what I felt like before the surgery’s

I had six yes (6) abdominal hernia surgery. The last time them finally put mess inside and outside of my abdominal muscles. And that fixed it. Recovery time is usually 4 to 6 weeks. I was working as a heavy duty truck mechanic at the time. It was "tender" to the touch but never had any problems. I was no one to lift heavy objects or strain too hard prying, pushing or pulling. They just happened with every day duties. The one doctor explained that some muscles can have super small "defects" or where the muscles never connected properly, and those are the spots that tear.

I had a double hernia surgery about 8 years ago. I was off work for a week and a half.

Don't fret if you wake up one morning and your berries are black, it's all part of the experience.

You doing the 3 hole air surgery repair? My biggest issue was slow recovery on the stomach muscles weakness that took more time than I thought it would take to get back to normal. No meds for me just OTC pain killers for me.

Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

I just had a pretty big hernia repaired 3 weeks ago. I felt good the next day. They gave me some strong painkillers but never took one. I'm not supposed to lift over 15 pounds for 6 weeks. I went back to work today but on light duty till I get released. The worst part was sitting at home not doing anything because of the weight restriction.

I had colon surgery, then kidney surgery, then gastric surgery, all within about a year. A large hernia developed. It was as large as a softball.

Following surgery I was sore and limited in what I could do. Several months later there were no lingering difficulties. Just do it.

Inguinal hernia repair with a mesh. Off work for a few weeks. Never had any issues with swelling or pain.

I had the same surgery a year and a half ago. They gave me prescription pain pills, but I never took them. Used acetaminophen instead. Very manageable pain the first couple days. No pain after about a week.

My wife wants me to wear a bracelet that belonged to her grandfather. It says, "Do Not Resuscitate".

Had an umbilical hernia repair with mesh, pain wasn't too bad unless you laugh, cough, or try to sit up.... then you noticed!, lol
Doc said you can go to work after a couple days, yeah right, no.....but after a week 10 days it was fine.
Just don't do what my father in law did after his surgery and try and move a refrigerator.... back to the hospital for a re-do.

Not an older fella but had both groin and belly done with crap mesh. Every now and then I get some pain normally if I’ve spent most the day lifting things. Was told some end up with pain issues and some don’t so figured I was one of the lucky ones that ended up with the pain every now and then haha. Always wanted to go get a second opinion on it but I avoid doctors as much as I avoid telling my wife how much money I spent on this or that haha!

I had inguinal heria repair with mesh done, both sides, a couple years ago. It was painful but was back to work in 2 weeks. For the first few days I couldnt get up on my own if I laid down. And when the dogs or kids would run up to me I'd instictively pull my legs up to protect myself and it would hurt so bad I'd yelp like a sad puppy laugh But it healed quickly and after 1 week it was just a dull ache for the most part.

I hade two done at same time in 2012. Do everything the DR says. A few weeks and take it slow. Only walking around the house and no lifting of anything.

I watched lots of movies and trapping vids then

Take a STOOL SOFTENER too!

This has been my experience as well. I still have some pain now and then. Mine was over 20 years ago.
