Then, so far, all you have lost is profit.

Before there were Roth accounts there were IRA accounts. We still have both. A friend of mine had several seafood markets. His teenaged son was a fish cleaner all summer, plus he had a line of crab pots he pulled every morning. The kid filed a tax return showing misc income, and matched that amount 100% with IRA contributions before we had Roth. This was in the 80s and 90s, I think.

Consider a similar approach to investing. There are many no-load mutual funds that accept small investment amounts. This is a good place to start. Just remember, your uncle Sam will allow you to invest up to 100% of your income, thus you will need to do a tax return. I doubt you will owe any taxes it you must file to show income to match your investments.

I retired from Prudential. My son also used this approach. Something to remember is that you can’t earn anything until you invest. Don’t get paralyzed by investment decisions. You have years and years to refine your investments. I suggest an S& P 500 no load fund.

I didn't know minors had to pay taxes. I filed as a teenager if I remember, but I thought I got it all back?

I got a raise so I'm not mad at all. Currently i always buy traps and lures and everything like that. The most I have ever saved up to is $600 and I been working at this farm for 10 months. So if anybody can help me out on how I can start investing I will really appreciate it.

And do you buy stuff online? Like crypto???

I think it's a good thing that I'm 13 and trying to invest! I will be 14 in November...

You said your are 5'3" tall, and your mother is 5'2" tall. You also said that makes you a FOOT taller than her.You need to hone up on your math skills before worrying about investment advice.

5’5” is NOT way taller than 5’2”. And it certainly isn’t a foot. It is three (3) inches. Just saying………

Well,,I was just quoting what you said in a different thread. And by the way,,if your 5'5" and shes 5'2" your still not a foot taller than her as wissmiss pointed out. Also,,learn how to read a measuring tape. Its a skill that will come in handy for trapping.Measuring chain lengths and trap jaw spreads and such. smile

I’d say at your age look long term, you have a lot of working years that could really change things in the short term, but investments now will be used in your later years like 70 plus, one thing to ask a professional is wether your money is keeping up with inflation, I have an uncle that thinks the only place is a bank to invest and over the years he has lost money do to low interest paid on his cds and higher inflation.

The younger you start saving the better. So start a savings account and do not touch what you put in it. I still remember going in the bank when I was a kid and they would write the interest in the paper book i took in. Beyond a core saving program diversification in different investments ie stock, bonds, land, whatever you feel will appreciate in value and or provide returns. Greatest investment I ever made was in a animal lure company. We all have different interest follow your heart.

The only reason not to invest in assets when young man or women is to invest in yourself and educate yourself for what you want to spend the rest of your life doing.

Investing is simply the accumulating of items that grow in value. Whether that be savings, financial papers, real estate, businesses, and the list goes on. If something you own or spend money on isn't making you monetary growth, it's not an investment.

As an example, that truck you want to buy in the future, in most cases it will not be an investment ... It losses value every mile you will drive it. Unless by driving it, you can grow wealth that you couldn't do by any other means. Driving to school and work is a luxury as you already use another method to do those things now without the expense of the truck. If the time you save by using the truck, however, allows you to do other things that you use to grow your financial wealth then it may become an asset if it all pencils out to be positive. In that case, purchasing the truck becomes an investment.

But as said before, working to make wealth without having some fun along the way; intimately, does not make for an enjoyable like, if there are no goals.

Have you never hauled hay, deer, coon or beaver in a car or mini van? First thing about trappers are they are resourceful and use what's available. Some even bike, snow mobile and walk.
