Check regs to see if airguns are legal.

Under Georgia regs (which desperately need updating) a strict reading says a .22 rimfire is the only legal means for dispatch for trapping.

Yet airguns are legal for hunting both small and big game.

While actual dispatch is not to be discussed openly I'm sure airguns in general without comment on actual results is allowed.

That said, what you shooting?

Velocity/grain/FPE

Regardless of air or powder the fundamentals of accuracy and energy to reach still apply.

My experience with air, first seek the penetration. Nothing in 177 with a dome/flat/hp has proven satisfactory. Pointed is the bare minimum.

If penetration is met and exceeded then look to an expanding or flat point.

I found my boys .22 cal Benjamin maximus pcp bought on sale off midway black Friday sale 3 years or so back for I think 150 and a $60 hand pump when I saw the ammo shortages coming worked with satisfactory results to keep the boys shooting cheaply and out of my 22lr stock and they are also effective on small game up to close range in 20 yard coyotes in my experience. Air guns are very flexible and cheap to shoot. But check you regs. Just because something is effective does not mean it's legal everywhere
